Hot RAM!

How hot should RAM be running at? I have my laptop back open and upsidedown for better airflow and I poked at a memory stick. Almost burned my finger on it. This normal?

laptop things are more resilient towards temperatures. however i must say i never felt anything past with my 1600mhz laptop ram.
mine are samsung 1600mhz eco something something.

G.Skill 1366mhz 4x2GB sticks feel like they're boiling.

check if thye are supported. if they arent they are likely using the wrong profile settings.

Make sure all vents are clear and no dust around fan all so get a laptop cooler, as laptop typically suck air from the bottom get a laptop cooler that blows air upwards and i like using are the ones that have large fans like some of the Thermaltake laptop coolers.

Sounds normal to me. Unless you have stability issues, don't worry about it. Lots of people will say ram doesn't get hot... I do not agree in any way. Some ram doesn't get very warm, sure, but some ram kits come with fans for a reason.

Apologies for super blur.

I took off the back for better air flow. Memory sticks have the sticker still on them and they are running at the correct clocks and are supported.

Probably around 60c-70c, quite normal to laptop ram. Anything higher than body temp is going to feel hot.

Ram in laptops differs alot from the desktop counterparts and generally runs a bit hotter due to less surface area and normally less airflow. But this is all fine as they are designed to take a bit more punishment than you would think.

My laptop is an MSI GT70 and even its ram can get a little warm in general with its gaming fan setup (Err well blower whatever).

I would suggest using a notebook cooler if your worried, or you can always grab some different ram that run at better voltages or whatever you fancy. Might also be good for an APU in general.

Well he could always take note of the label on the ram and look it up so see what the max allowed temp is.. If either of our laptops had ram that hot i know i would check.

60C should feel hot to touch but not burn worthy. i would check the manufacturers rating like asrock said.

65c for me is, and I got thick callouses from playing guitar.

That said, you're right, always check the official specs. You can also use AIDA64 to check if the DIMM supports "Extended Temperature Range".

Thing is like a GPU hitting it's max temp other items around it might not be able to take the heat as well. In the end it's better of being cooler.

More chance of dry joints too.

Well I was playing Warframe on low settings and managed to hit over the thermal limits, causing a forced shutdown. Everything but the HDD was over 100c.

Just had another thermal shutdown so we're going to BestBuy tomorrow as my desktop is still down and my laptop is all I can use for the moment.

Get a can of compressed air too and see if you can blow some of the dust out of it or just see if it lowers the temps a bit. Take note of which way the air flow is on the laptop and which way the laptop cooler works and were the vents are on the laptop.

normally they suck in air from the bottom so a laptop cooler blowing air at the bottom near hot spots and were the vents are.
