That is my dilemma, I know the obvious answer but I would like to hear you guys thoughts. I am more in favor of the original green team (AMD) as i find their video playback through HDMI gives a better overall pic among other things. My current res is 1440p and I was looking to add another screen of same res.
Any thoughts?

PS: This is for my upcoming x99 build.

No one knows what the 880 will perform like but I'll assume it wont be drastically different from a 780Ti.

That being said.... I'd add a second 780 and apply liberal amounts of overclocking to the pair and be happy with the performance..... I'd also personally wait until the 880 drops... only because the 780s will be a fair amount cheaper than they are at the minute.

I know but if history repeats itself the 880 will be a good enough increase but maybe not worth the price. I have a hydro copper and would probably want to keep the same "hydro" as getting a 780 and a block would cost about the same only with the hydro, I would keep my warranty. The reason for me throwing the 780 ti in there is it cost roughly the same as the 780 so why not. Going any other way besides getting another 780 would obviously be more expensive but...I am not worried about the cost, it's all about the most power for my monitor setup.

reportedly sometime next month
I'm reading October in some places, quite a longish wait but if you've already got a 780 I'd definitely wait for the 880/870 to drop, esp if you're gonna buy used

What content (and what is it's source) are you running that you notice the difference between AMD and Nvidia's video playback (and in what media player program)?

If you all ready own a 7 series card, Maxwell won't be a worthwhile upgrade. And if you own a 6 series card, the only thing Maxwell does, is drive the 7 series down in price - but cards retain their value pretty well. Previous generation GPUs do not lose significant value the day that their successor launches to the public. It can take months before you see used prior generation cards start to have a price shift.

My own personal experience, I've had more driver issues with AMD though, but that was in the 4850 generation.

Haha that was AAAAAGES ago, but tbh the stigma is still there. It's why I'd hesitate to go xfire.

There is no difference that I'm away of

@OP:
If youre wanting to drive two 1440 monitors then I suggest a move away from 3GB cards and looking at a pair of 4GB 290X or if you 'dont care about cost' then a pair of 6GB 780Ti's as youll probably need them with your desired monitor setup.... shit, even a used pair of Titans wouldnt be so bad.

Personally, as stated before, I'd wait for the 880 to drop and pick up another 780 Hydro over at EVGA forums but roll only a single 1440 monitor as no one really needs more for general use.

Besides, its a bastard to drive such a high combined resolution (5120x2440) even with a pair of 6GB 780TI's and get acceptable frame rates.

Lol my last jump in gpu was from those xfire to the 780 but I hold no stigma against neither...but I still find watching movie playback through AMD a better overall experience. I love my 780, I haven't really put it to great use though cause of my ps4 but I sure plan to.

A new hydro would cost me roughly $650,
880gtx $650-850
2 290x $1200 gpu cooling included

Buy a second hand 780 when the 880s release when everyone jumps on the early adopters band wagon. If I had money to do that, that is what my plan would be.

There's a difference in playback on graphics cards? How so? I thought as long as you're getting all the frames it's alright

There's a difference, I usually use my HD DVD xbox drive to check but any hd pic can show the video disparities.

I decided to go the 2 290 route. But I'm 4K gaming. The 880 gtx is not gonna beat crossfire 290 for $440.

Wait for the 880, single GPU, more efficient, faster and more modern per card. Also, forget about the Hydro Copper BS/EK blocks. Get a ref card and Aquacomputer block it yourself.

It's not all about the temps since you're true water cooling, it's about the block quality. Aquacomputer makes better blocks than Swiftech.

It's not all about the temps since you're true water cooling, it's about the block quality. Aquacomputer makes better blocks than Swiftech.
You maybe right but as far as I've seen I think I've seen only 2 manufacturers waterblock being sold on gpus to the public with warranty and they are ek and swiftech. If evga can trust them then i sure can.

I say second 780, AFTER the 880 comes out, this way prices will be cheaper and come on you've gotten along this far with one 780, what's a few more weeks.

I one up'd that and got 2 r9 290s for 438 and currently stuck on the blocks I'm going to throw them under...but also will be adding another 780 to my 1150 setup.

and EK makes better blocks than everyone for Kepler cards (780/Titan/780Ti). VRM cooling has been reviewed the best on EK blocks, which is important for people who have modded BIOS to take voltage higher then 1.21v, like mine.
