It looks exactly like Heroes of Might and Magic, or am I missing something? Regardless, it looks fun.

Yeah, it's pretty cool, I enjoyed the earlier renditions, and totally waiting on the Kickstarter Worlds of Magic. Those all fell in the same vein, honestly, but I like the look of the classes potentials in AoW III.

Watch some Youtube videos...it's an amazing game but is not like Starcraft 2 at all. IMHO.

Planetary Annihilation is kind of a space-planet-based take on supcomp/TA, with Borderlands-style graphics and macro vs micro. There's a lot to do and a lot going on.

I love this game, it's been a true blast in beta form. I would say watch a few Youtube videos for yourself (search ZaphodX, he's one of the top commentators for replays). Checkout the Uber Entertainment forums, they're very active with the community which this game has a great one imho. Very accepting, willing to help, teach, educate, play, etc. At that price, it's worth it for any strategy gaming fan imho. But it is a larger scale RTS overall..when you have bigger planets and several of them in one system, things can get hectic. It's very fun, fast paced, and great!

I hope that helps or at least helps you to research to see if you'd like it or not. It's a little different from most every other strategy game I've ever played, even the ones it's sorta related to...but in that sense I feel it's going into a new realm that other RTS titles will surely follow because Uber has found a great mix for the future of RTS, competitive RTS and just plain fun RTS!

Thank you for the post. I think I'll wait for the final product many of the reviews indicate it is very good but needs polish still, and I am sure steam will have it on sale again.

Ya it's updated at least weekly, and sometimes bugs are removed, sometimes new ones are created. All I know is the AI is getting very good, the online community is badass and it's a very fun RTS that brings 3D strategy to a whole new level...flat maps become boring to go back to.

SC2: should I be using grid hotkeys? starting to get much better since I got more serious with practicing new builds etc and I am wondering if the default control scheme is holding me back, now would be the time to switch.
I am still a noob but I get much better each week.

I play protoss exclusively except for arcade sometimes.

Planetary Annihilation has been a BLAST lately! Between that, Distant Worlds hogging up my time on the more Simulation style-side and SupCom2 with the kids...RTS gaming has been great!

I was playing SupCom2 and thinking that would be the PERFECT game engine for a Tiberian Sun reboot with added strategic elements. I think C&C could greatly benefit from an expanded zoom out view...maybe there will be PA mods...because planet battles would be cool too...but a little out of context. I think SupCom2 would be perfect though...well optimized, runs smooth, solid effects. Wish that game would be released to open source... Last time I tried the beta of the upcoming Command and Conquer I wasn't very impressed...it looked good I suppose...but the playstyle was meh.

Whatever happened to the good old-fashioned demo, anyway? Anyone else miss the days of PC Gamer and looking forward to popping that disc in to see what the new and upcoming was? far cry from that to these days of paying for bug-filled access to a game you may or may not like... we spend money for the chance to play it a little early, whether or not it's a game we know we'll like....

My first RTS was Ground Control made by Sierra. Then LOTR BFME, AOE2, COH, AOE3 AND now COH2.

Ground Control was awesome back when.

I've been playing the hell out of Planetary Annihilation, though I must admit that I feel they released it prematurely. But they have polished a lot of other aspects of the game. I have been playing One Player skirmish and Galactic War. The action is solid, I wish there was actual 3D battle terrain use for advantageous reasons...but oh well. Overall UberEnt has done a pretty damn good job on this game, and I find it is ultimately very fun to play a quick round or two. It has come a long way since a year ago. Plus the fact it plays so wall in Linux makes me happy too!

Been playing Homeworld through again..... with some AA it looks pretty damn good until you get up close to the textures. But really impressive. I can't wait for the remastered ones...I'm really hoping they change just enough to modernize it..better resolution handling (though for a game from 1999, it handles 1920x1080 quite well), better textures and effects, better sound, and flight pathing.

Even without those...it's a true treat of a game to play..again and again. Seems that Homeworld and Tiberian Sun will be forever in my blood, as I started that up again and picked up where I left off back when I created this thread.
