The source is sketchy, but a $20 upgrade would be nice. Remember the $15 "upgrade" from Win 7 to 8?

And $20 from XP to 9 would kick ass, I've got two retail keys of XP.

Every single one of the since Vista you could do a clean install with. As a matter of fact Ive never NOT done a clean install with the windows 8 upgrade.

Actually, you can do a clean install with upgrade editions, you just have to provide the OS disc of an eligible older OS for the installer to verify.

But anyway, you can't do an upgrade from XP to 7, let alone 9. So it would have to be a clean install by necessity.

Nothing required to clean instal with W8 upgrade. It was $14 and a reg hack. But yes it should be able to clean install on the upgrade

I'm hoping. The other rumor is that they finally separated the front end intereface for tablets (at least I read for RT) and same for desktops. That's what they should have done with Win 8 from the start.

No, my friend, you are suprising me. It ALWAYS asks you between Update existing or Custom install (which is your only choice if you use a empty hard drive).

Hell, doing a clean install from an upgrade goes back to, for me at least, the XP days. All I had to do was pop in theW98 CD for XP upgrade to check, and I had a fully installed XP Pro. It was a cheap way to buy an OS! So it's been awhile now. W98 was my first OS, so I can't speak about before that.

I'm gonna stick with W8.1 for awhile. Myself and fiance are both on board now with 8.1 (I just made the move last wkd). I'll consider 9 for my HTPC (which uses W7 because I shouldn't have to pay extra for Media Center) if you don't have to give them your youngest child to get Media Center with it.
