They have this special every once in a while. I'm tempted to hit the checkout, but the lashing I would receive may not be worth it (or maybe it would :) ).

Depending on what you have now, the lashing could be well worth it, hell even enjoyable :) I've got the 2405 at home and one at work.

I have a NEC 90GX right now. It does the job, but I'm just planning my upgrade strategy -
24" monitor, Vista and then DX10 Card. Going to be an expensive year.

That is a nice deal, but they also dropped the price of the 30" as well as made the 30" (its the 30"-HC now).

Yes, prices will always be dropping but you have to jump in somewhere or wait forever.

I have the older 30" non-HC monitor and it looks great. I think the new HC version was just a little more to keep the price up.

I would like to add there is not a single dead pixel on my Dell monitor.
For all the Dall bashing that goes on, this 30" LCD is sweet.

 With the 30" I would definitly be looking for somewhere to sleep when it arrived! 'cause then I would need 2 high end DX10 Cards to run it.

Still too expensive. I know Dell makes quality LCDs but I think you might find a better deal on an Acer or Viewsonic or summat.

Here is how the conversation between my wife and I went when I wanted to get the 30" monitor ....

Me : I want to get a new monitor but it's pretty expensive.
Wife : How much is it ?
Me : About $1200
Wife : Yikes, how much have you spent on your new computer already ?
Me : About $3000
Wife : That's not bad! Go for it.

Now you see one of the reasons I love my wife :)

Well the reason they are expensive as seen in my guide is that they have a zero dead pixel policy and they use an IPS panel instead of TN (and the USB ports built into the monitor).
However, I agree that this is very expensive.

However, their 30" is one of the cheapest now since the HP and Apple ones are around $1500 still.

Here's how it would go for me:

Me: Honey, I would like to get a new monitor, but it's pretty expensive.
Wife: How much is it?
Me: About $1200
Wife: You spent over $2000 for your whole computer just last year!
Me: Yes, but honey....
Wife: GET OUT

Although I still love my wife as she (trys to) keeps my spending in check.

I gotta say though you have one of the highest end 19" available.
Those NECs are not cheap.

Ya I know. I'm actually very happy with it, but as with any hardware, you always want the latest/greatest/biggest/fastest. I'm also very happy with my 1950xtx, but doesn't stop me from thinking "wow those 8800/2900 would be amazing" even though I know i would not see any real performance gains (with my current monitor that is).
