Help needed! 1950pro BIOS flashed, now a VGA Save in Windows

Hello there,

My 1950pro (PCIe) was shown from ATI Tool 0.27 as R570XT, so I searched for an 1950xt BIOS...found one, flashed with atiflash with command _f _p 0 xxx.bin, worked without error message, after re-boot, Windows told me that my new graphi adapter is now a VGA save.
So I have tried to flash the old BIOS, but the card is no longer found with Atiflash. It's telling me: no adapter found. Is there any chance to get my 1950pro back?

re-flash it with the backup (I assume) you made of the original BIOS file.

Thx. That's what I did already, but it does not work. Neither in Windows nor in Dos with Atiflash the cards is recognized as ATI card. In Dos with Atiflash I have the message: no card found.

Looks like you may of flashed an AGP 1950Pro BIOS to your card, and not a PCIE one. Using ATIflash 3.25 from DOS you could try ATIflash -F -P -atmel 0 BIOSname.bin \ rom, or try the command but substitute -atmel with -SST.

nope. didn't work. both commands. Message form Atiflash: no adapter found. btw: I have used atiflash 3.35 not 3.25, does that make any difference?

It shouldnt do, but I havent used 3.35. They may of removed support for some stuff.

In the meanwhile I although have tried it with the 3.25 version...and guess what? no succes.
I think the main problem is, that the card is no more recognized as any card of any brand.
Earlier today I have tried it already with an PCI Card and the flash has not found any pcie adaptors...

In that case a Device ID has probably been smushed together when you tried reflashing the card and now because no such ID actually exists, it cant see your card. There is a way around it, but it requires some soldering skills.

Whatever I can do, I will do... From my point I can say that I am not a total 'noob' ...mmm, or I am, however.

Theres a guide here on TPU somewhere that details how to do it which w1z done, but I cant find it atm.

If thats all you did, ATIflash shouldnt have any real problems seeing the card and reflashing it, strange it does. Try searching this sub-forum. I made a thread a while back where my replacement 1950Pro wouldnt flash, found the fix, but more importantly within that thread should be a link to how to outfox the card and revive it. I had a look thru the first 9 pages, but couldnt find the old thread.

Yeah, the X1950XTs are ALL R580s. They all have the full 16 ROPs. The X1950PROs don't have any locked pipelines. The main point of the X1950PROs was to create a less power hungry replacement for the X1900GTs, which did use the R580 core and (rev 1) could sometimes be unlocked.

I wonder how many problems that caused when he flashed it to a card with no internal crossfire bridge...it's there, but not being accessed by the bios. That could either do absolutely nothing (in other words, it would just stop accessing it) or confuse the heck out of the card. Oh, you also flashed it to 900MHz memory I take it. That may have caused some lasting problems. Well, good luck!

I was not able to wait until tomorrow and guess what? IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great stuff! Thank you all!!! The main reason why I wanted to change the Bios is that I do not have a temperature monitoring. But I thinkI must live with it. ...For the moment
