Hey guys,

Well as some of you already know i have recently got a new system (but not graphics card) but had been having problems with the X2 accellero add on. Well, after finally fixing that, i fear that my graphics card has been damaged in the process.

Since installing the new X2, Processor, motherboard and ram i have received various glitches with it, i think this is mainly to do with my fiddling with the X1900XT and the X2. Problems such as;

1) ATi tool suddenly closes telling me my hardware has changed. Upon restart and/or restart of ATi Tool it works again.

2) Screen randomly goes blank. I have tried re-instering the card, re-inserting the monitor cable, changed the monitor extension, changed power cable and even restarting the machine and yet the screen may still remain blank. It seems to come back when it likes.

3) Upon closing a game (Such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R or World of Warcraft) the screen will go blank giving me some sort of ATi error report, send/don't send entitled 'VPU recovery' or something along those lines. It tells me that there is a problem with my card, i forgot to take a screenshot of this occurrence and so cannot remember the exact details of it but will do next time it appears.

4) Random restarts upon exiting a game (Such as STALKER or World of Warcraft).

In-game it all runs fine, smooth, nice FPS etc. STALKER on max graphics. Just im getting this random and rather tedious errors.

Some problems i think may be occuring;

1) Lack of power? 4 80MM case fans, 1 PCI Slot fan, Arctic Cooling 7 on E6600 and the new X2 Accellero on the card - perhaps too much for my PSU now? Should i remove the PCI-slot fan?

2) Damaged card perhaps? (I'd like to think this was unlikely since all in-game runs fine.)

3) Incompatibility issues somewhere down the line?

4) ATi Tool configuration mishap? Perhaps something to do with the loading of 2D and 3D profiles? Voltage settings?

5) Heat? (I also like to think this is unlikely!)

TEMPS - On load:
X1900XT - During 3D Mark 06
GPU: 60-65*C
Vregs: 65/68/69/70/71*C

E6600 C2D - During 3D Mark 06 (Thermal Analysis Tool)
CPU 1: 34*C
CPU 2: 36*C

Help.

Once again i am asking this great and helpful community for help with my hardware, i hate to be such an annoying noob-pain in the arse but i trust you guys and your judgements since they seem to be great so far.

Anything else you want to know, just ask!

Thanks a lot guys and appreciate all the help you can give!

Hux.

Un-install ATI Tool and re-install it. Turn off VPU recovery in ATI CCC Controll panel.

The temperatures seem to be fine. A little high some might say, but seeing as my temperatures for the GPU are about the same at most times, then they're not too bad.

PSU seems to not be the problem. I have a 430W running all of my system, and i've got Scythe cooler on my X2 4200, Accelero X2 on X1800GTO (oced, supposedly runs at 35.5A, from what ATiTool tells me :O), DVD-RW, CM Musketeer, USB card reader, 8 USB devices, 4x80mm fans, and 1x120GB IDE 1x20GB IDE HDDs, so if I can run all that on a 430W, you can likely run your spec on a 580W.

My screen also goes randomly blank at times. I attribute it to drivers, as it's never happenned in Linux, without drivers, or with optimised drivers.

I doubt it's a damaged card, as you'd either not be able to run games, or would not see anything on screen, whether during POST or in Windows.

Funny though, you get a VPU recover option, mine never asks, it just shows a blank screen, and waits for me to reboot.

One quick question though, I might have missed it in there, partly skimmed, but did you install Windows again after the upgrade, or did you keep the old install?

Yep, i wiped my HD before installing all the new hardware.

Un-install ATI Tool and re-install it. Turn off VPU recovery in ATI CCC Controll panel.

What would you say was causing the problem to constitute reinstalling ATi tool etc before i try this since i have not had problems with it before? Thanks!

What's the voltage the ram is running at ????

How do i find out the voltage my ram is running at?

Cheers for the quick replies guys!

the above indicate a mem prob... that's why the volt ?? your mem [if running from the spd] should be 2.2 v [if you have 'auto' set in bios ] knowing you I will assume that to be correct ....you don't run at overclocks..
you stated a 'clean' install... did you create you profiles in atitool[after the fresh install of the tool] as in other thread?? or are you allowing the card's bios to switch the clocks & volts for 3D mode??...as you know your card 'hiccups' when changing 2D/3D clks/vlts...
If your mem is good [have you run memtest on each stix by it self??]
then I would assume that your back to the 'old' 2D/3D clock switch prob ==VPU recover
have a go at it and get back..... later

Hey Frogger, my ATi tool profile is setup the same as it is in that other thread. I didn't really understand the rest of your post though?

It's definitely something to do with loading my 2D/3D clocks/profiles. Earlier i was just sitting at desktop, when i ran a game them came out the screen went blank until i had to reset. What would be causing this?

Hux.

Well i was playing some World of Warcraft and was getting some weird stuttering in-game which was getting on my tits, so i quit with the intention of going back in and the error occured.

When i quit, the screen went all artifacted, blurry with lots of squares and such appearing all over the screen. Then my computer stopped responding, screen went blank (So i kept hitting the windows key) and it returned me back to windows where i could get this screenshot.

What do you think? All and everyones input welcomed!

Appreciate all the help guys cheers,

Hux.

Yeah that might be it cuz his on water and your not so his might not as much volts as its cooler so try that and see if you get that 'VPU recovery' still

just up the 3D VOLTS VGPU Volts to 1.425v and test it okay

leave the rest the same and make sure you save it

Okay i've turned them up to 1.425 (It gave me a warning 'These are very high - to continue?' so i clicked yes anyway) but i dont see how this would be the problem since they were at these volts before.

Did my problem.txt present any errors frogger?

was a shot in the dark :p....[did it work]??.. if you disable atitoll And systool in device manager and let CCC ajust the 2D/3D clks/vlts ....will it happen again ????
and no the prob report supplied no info ....but never hurts to look.....would still be great to see the 'gpu recovery' one
get back about CCC...also can you 'dump' you vid bios to a zip and post it for a look

I'm not gonna jump the gun here just yet but i have a feeling it may have worked. I first uninstalled my drivers, driver cleaner pro'd them and then reinstalled just the display drivers. I also rolled back to a previous driver, 7.1. At first that had no effect, so i then adjusted the volts.

I will let you know how it gets on guys.

P.S (How do i zip up my vid bios? Last time i played around with my 6800 vid bios i ended up having to wack a 5 year old PCI card in to get it back! :))

Cheers,

Hux.
