Advice needed: PCI-E Lite

My Father-In-Law has a factory built 'Philips Iqon' system with an MSI MS-7267 motherboard. He wants to add a GFX card but its states that a 'PCI-E Lite' video card is required

TBH I had never heard of PCI-E Lite before this. So what I need advice on is what card(s) will be compatible with this system

The board itself has a fully-fledged PCI-E 16x slot, and I've never heard of PCI-E Lite before, so I would guess that it supports PCI-E graphics cards. If you can, find a PCI-E card and put it in the PC and just see if it works, if it does then go out and buy a PCI-E card.

Its strange because it was the actual MSI site that said it was a PCI-E Lite slot (which is 8x, not 16x)

I think I will just test my PCI-E card in it

"PC-E LITE" mean that it only has 4x-8x support on the pci-e 16x slot. There should be a list of compatable GPU's on the MSI site for that Mobo.

I believe that PCI-E Lite is physically like a PCI-E x16 slot, with the same length, etc. But, it only runs x8. So if you were to use a PCI-E x16 graphics card, the bandwidth would be cut to x8.

I did look on the MSI site, but its not very well put together and I couldnt find the list

Yeah had the same problem, I've seen it before (list of recommended components per mobo) can't find it now!?

Ah, well as that explains it then that's good. 99% of PCI-E 16x cards will run in that slot, but have their bandwidth cut. However ATi cards aren't affected by that as much as nVidia cards are. I read an article somewhere (I'll dig out the link for you if you want) that showed the performance of ATi and nVidia at the different link speeds, and at 8x ATi only had a small drop in performance where as nVidia took quite a hit.
