AMD to Launch 7 Series Chipsets This Year

AMD has scheduled to release its new 7 series chipsets in the second half of 2007. The 7 series chipsets will introduce support for HyperTransport 3.0 and will include the high-end RD790 which will adopt PCI Express 2.0, mainstream RX780, and two models with integrated graphics (IGP): the RS740 which supports DirectX 9, and RS780 which will add support for DirectX 10 and AMD's UVD (Universal Video Decoder) technology. The RX780 and RS740 will launch in the third quarter while the RD790 and RD780 will follow in the fourth quarter of 2007. Initially the chipset will be matched with the SB600 southbridge but AMD also plans to release the SB700 in the fourth quarter. Plans to release chipsets which support Intel CPUs, RD700, RS700 and RC710, have all been aborted.

no not at all, AMD needs to focus on their own chipsets first and then on intel afterwards... Would be kind of stupid if the intel chipset was ready before the AMD one.......
Sounds good to me, expect the intel variants around 6-8 months after the AMD variants.

malware's post reports that the Intel versions have been aborted. That doesn't mean delayed, it means it's not being made, period.

I dont think thats the case with all codecs (is that correct terminology) as i was very close to buying a board based on that chipset. The general consensus was demanding 1080p content suffered dropped frames.

I dont have a 1080p TV yet so i can wait anyway

I believe the plans were scrapped due to Intel shifting away from the ATI chipsets. Basically, my understanding is, Intel doesnt want to use any AMD chipsets or anything like that. Not that I blame them.

I was hoping these chipsets would be released sooner. However, its around the time I do plan on moving to AM2 so, this is good news for me. That RD790 looks sweet and with the SB700 to go with it, should be an awesome board. I hope it oc's well.

Maybe they just think releasing a zillion will eventually just magically get them market share..
