i am thinking about buying a new PSU and maybe a CPU i just came across this one on newegg, what do you guys think about it?

yeah, that is exactly it. how are the toledo cores? my winchester is the only one i have had since i learned more about computers. what is a good core? and would it be worth the extra 10 bucks to get it oem?

No i assumed you had a AM2 sytem.
The X2 4200 for 939 is still 90nm tech. Pretty high on the voltage compared to the newer AM2 65nm's. Either i would go for the X2 4200 or the Opty 165. That's also a great overclocker.
IMO even better then the X2 4200.

would i notice a very big performance gain going from my Athlon 64 3000+ clocked @ 2.5 if i were to go with the Athlon 64 X2 4200 @ 2.2?

I just did what you did!! Well except I went from a 3000 Venice clocked at 2.6Ghz. I got exactly this CPU and It's currently clocked at 2.5Ghz (soon to be OC'd more once I get new memory). The performance is definately worth it. Especially as it should reach 2.7 or 2.8Ghz.

It's definately worth it to stave off a full rebuild for a few months.

It really is only $5 more because if you look, the open box is ~$5 shipping and the oem new is free shipping (I was looking at doing this move today as well).

well in a few days i will post some benchies of before and after and let you see. right now i am at 2.4ghz with my ddr 400 running at 435mhz.

Just checked your specs, and you're better off with a new video card. My uncle's 3000+ coupled with an x850AGP runs BF2142 on High and 2x AA without issues.

Get this psu. FSP group is one of the best out there. It has 8-pin CPU power and 24-bin main power, but it is also backwards-compatable with older 4-pin and 20-pin mobos. It also sipports PCI-E for the future.

Forget about the CPU, you'll be much happier this way.
