not sure if you would be better to get a 86gt or gts as both seem to out perform the 26xt. having dasi that both camps may have released a new mid-range card by then as both seem to be underpowered.

other harddrives are faster in the same price braket and maybe c2d not amd but hey thats your choice.

check tomshardware charts for good comparisons of performance in these 3 things.

Hi, well heres my opinion ;)

1) That 2600XT 512mb is a waste of cash. Its only 128Bit so you wont even need the extra 256mb of RAM (tbh the card isnt powerful enough)

If you want a budget gaming card, get the 8600GTS 256mb ;)

2) why go 4GB of RAM? At the moment you would be better off by getting 2x 1GB sticks of fast DDR2 and spending the cash you save on your graphics card (maybe this will allow you to get the 8800GTS 320mb or 8800GTS 640mb instead, which are LOADS better than the X2600XT 512mb and the 8600GT & GTS)

3) why go AMD, you should build a Core2Duo system. You could get one of the low-end C2D's and overclock the hell out of it ;)

This is what I would change some parts to:

MoBo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131048 (I have this mobo, its a great budget board and allows overclocking with ease)

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115016 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115015 (both will overclock well, my E6420 is running at 2.67GHz ;) )

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231065

GFX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133193

why not go with 2GBs of memory and spend the extra money on the gpu? as you'll see little or no gains from 4GBs, where as a better gpu will help out alot.

I have this pair, it'll hit 1066 at least ( as it's the same set as the 1066 pair just different timings)

and that'll give you double your gpu budget, from $125 to 250$
which if you stretch a bit, you can get this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

or crossfired 2600xt's (though the gts will be faster)

edit:
and um yeah you c2d at 2.67 is still slower than the 6000x2 at stock lol. just check the reviews, the fx-62 beats the 6600 at stock and the 6000 beats the 6700 at stock.

Go for the 8800GTS 320mb then ;)

BTW, are you still going AMD, or are you going to go for the Core2? Personally I would go down the C2D route m8

Dont be fooled by stock clock speeds. The technology on the C2D is better than the AMD, even at lower speeds.

8800 gts 320 mb is good. As far as core 2 vs K8 in stock speed and price, price to performance, Intel wins that as well

I can gaurantee things will change in the next two months. I would suggest you keep researching different types of systems until you are really ready, then seek advise or suggestions on a new build.

With the amount of tech sites available today, you can loose yourself in 2 months and before you know it...2 months are up. Good luck.:ohwell:

Yup agreed with HAL. But in 2 months the prices would've dropped.

If you were really up for the overclocking I would have said E2160, EVGA 650i mobo, 2GB Super Talent DDR2 800, 8800GTS 640mb and a decent PSU, but if you're not then my best advice is this:
Don't be fooled by the G.Skill RAM, it's nice but it's $30 you can save if you go for the Super talent stuff, and there is just so little difference between DDR2 800 and 1066. Don't get the 320mb 8800gts - the 640mb version will pay off when games such as Crysis finally hit! And, Don't go AMD!!!
