my pc has started to crash 20 minutes into playing games like battlefield 2 and bioshock. this started happening after my house lost power during a storm. the computer was on and just sitting idle. im not sure if perhaps there was a surge and it effected the graphics card or something. while surfing the net, listening to music or watching movies it does not crash. any ideas?

If its just during gameplay I would say something has happened to your GFX card :( It could have been the power cut/surge that you spoke of (I had a power cut the other day and it crippled two of my LED fans), or just a problem that was waiting to happen :( (possibly an heat issue)

Do you have access to another card that you could test your system with?

PS: have you tried taking the overclock on your card away then retesting?

PSU might have taken a hit. Have you tried some CPU burning / ATItool cube to see if they crash it too? If that happens I'd test with another powersupply to see what happens. Lighning usually kills PSUs (and motherboards and network adapters) if there isn't some SurgeArrest between main and computer. Your PSU looks like a quality one, so there is propably a build in protector, but no idea does it protect PSU it self or just other components.

i underclock the x1800xt because it gets real hot here in the summer. so it isnt heat. ill try a burnin program tho.

My money Is on the PSU taking the hit.

I'd say keep everything the way you have it and Stress the CPU with Orthos and see If the reboot occurs....then you eliminate the Vid Card from being the culprit....but as stated....PSU's usually take the brunt of a brownout or loss of power and surges.

Good luck. :)

Have you try not overclocking your system ?. Maybe it's just windows playing ass again :p ?.

Could also be you over clocked your system in cooler winter time and now it's pretty hot that it's making it over heat.

Maybe consider buying a APC too.

Could be the PSU. When it starts to take the draw it can't handle it.

PSU, GFX, CPU possible
Do stress tests for CPU and memory-I reccomend Orthos. If it crashes, try a spare PSU. If not, try a different GFX card.
