Alienware Increases Notebook Hard Drive Capacity to 640GB

Alienware claims that it is the first notebook manufacturer to offer customers Samsung's 320GB 2.5" 5400RPM NCQ hard drives in single- and dual- device configurations for notebooks. Available as RAID 0 and RAID 1 systems in the 17" Area-51 m9750 and Aurora m9700 notebooks (dual-drive notebooks are priced from $2400), as well as a single 320GB configuration in the 15.4" Area-51 m5550 notebook, Alienware raises the bar to a higher level. The Area-51 m9750 model is also available with the combination of a 320GB hard drive and a 64GB solid state drive (the 320GB drive is offered as a $300 option, while the 64GB SSD lists for $1100).

raising the level? wtf thats a load of bullsh*t. if they were realy raising the level they would have kitted it out with a 320gb SSD HDD or even a 7200RPM HDD.

ANYBODY can change the HDD in their laptop - theres nothing so 'OoOoO aaaAhHhH' about it at all - all it is, is Alienwares using it connections to get something thats possibly not yet been released to the average consumer.

A bit harsh, but sadly I have to agree with FreedomEclipse here. Dellinware is not news. They are always overpriced, never special. This is just a PR stunt, and it's quite transparent.

I think what they mean is, no one else is raiding two 320GB HDDs for any customer. Alienware is now doing that.

haha, prepare for the returns (if the warranty is longer than a year). More heat will kill those poor HDDs even faster.
Almost every 2.5" hdd I've had to deal with has died prematurely from heat. 70-75 C is sooooo good on them. Dumb ass laptop manufacturers still haven't got a clue. You're lucky if there's even air vents. A fan is required, but you can't tell them anything.

Agreed, I have a notebook cooler because my first hdd crapped out on me. Also it was a Samsung...and even when it was winter out it still hit 50 C easy. My Futjistu, it didn't, it was fine without a fan, but the cooler the better.
