UK Computers Have Least Active Malware

Anti-virus firm Panda Software recently conducted a survey among people who visited their site asking for a free virus scan, to determine who had the most malware and where. The United Kingdom came through with top colors, with only 8.1% having malware on their computers. France had the proud honor of owning 28.2% of the world's malware, followed by Mexico at 23.1%, Brazil, the United States of America at 17.8%, and Argentina at 17.4%.

Please keep in mind that these numbers are taken from a survey of people asking Panda to scan their computer for malware, meaning that there is a very good chance that malware is already installed. A more realistic number of how many PC's are really infected with Malware was taken by Microsoft, which found that approximately 1 in 300 computers with Windows installed have Malware.

FREE Scans are beeing provided by EVERY Anti-Virus company online. They do nothing more than just SCAN your pc ( And try to sell their products to you ). They dont disinfect it so why do it in the first place ? Its silly to say the least....From my point of view.
People who ARE serious have Anti-Virus programs in their computers with which they scan and disinfect anything bad they find. That way you dont waste time with useless scans.

Absolutely incorrect !! Trend micro pccillin scans and removes any malware and is a top notch A/V

Take a look, not even with AV you're malware free!!!!

Do these results show per head of population? the UK is pretty small and therefore less computers to infect. saying that we have the lowest malware on our computers doesnt mean that we dont have it. i think these results need to be standardised as to reflect the population of the country of origin.

also this could also be bad - how many of the results where from the UK? it could have only have been 3 people and only one of them had malware where as the 90,000 americans who scanned, 60,000 people found out they did.

these types of things need to be looked at and taken into account

The figures are not obtained with infections per person, but per computer. Regardless UK has less population than other countries, the number of computers is much higher.

So, depending on the number of computers we give the figures.

but you dont get me - the amount of people who scanned their computer with the online scan, more may have been from the USA so therefore their figure is going to be worse off if they did have malware. a result per country would be better, as in such'n'such% for UK users against the such'n'such% for USA users.

The origing of the scanned computer is obtained for the IP. So, the IP coming from UK will be added to UK. If there are annonymous proxyes, or we cannot determine the origin of the IP, we will not count it.
