In the manual for my ASUS Croshair mobo there is a lot of talking about SLI...and there even is a SLI cable/bridge cable included......
BUT nothing about CrossFire ??
I also have a Sapphire HD2600XT 512 MB card...and I am wondering if its possible to do CrossFire with a identical card - at all ??
Does the Nvidia nFore 590 SLI chipset not support CrossFire ???

Basicly you are telling me, that only Intel and AMD chipsets supports CrossFire ?
And F***** Nvidia chipsets is ONLY supporting it´s own double-card technoligy ??

Great......really great.....anyone who will buy a cheap ASUS Crosshair ??

nah, it goes like this:
Amd chipsets: some support SLI, some support CF
Intel Chipsets: some support Sli, some support CF, some support both
Nvidia chipsets: SLI only
ATi chipsets: CF only, but SLI with hacked drivers.

With nVidia chipsets, I don't really think they will allow a competitors technology to work.

right, but the chipsets support both. my board and abit aw9d max both use intel 975x, but my board is crossfire, and the abit board is sli. the chipset supports both, so do the boards, just not officially.

SLI requires a Nvidia MCP or south bridge. Hacked drivers bypass this requirement. Crossfire can run on any chipset as long as the driver will recognize the chipset as a Crossfire compatible.

actually, crossfire requires a special hardware chip within the northbridge. SLI doesn't.

You know that the HP blackbird has two 2900xt on a Asus Striker Extreme. HP modded the bios to do so. What you need is that bios...handed over to a bios specialist, and apply the mods to other boards.

its the same striker extreme as the retail version, just more than likely has a proprietary bios with all the HP goodies in there

The striker has the 680 chipset. As for the board itself, it probably has a proprietary bios, but the only changes that i can think of is 1) supporting the option to launch a recovery partition, and 2) hold tattoo information for the particular unit.

read Rahul Sood's Blog: http://www.rahulsood.com/

edit: he has a lot of hate for the dell xps ;)

Very cool found ktr.....

here is a small passage from Rahul Sood´s blog :

Will there be a choice of motherboard as well?

Rahul: Well, when we get to the later boards for AMD, yes, but we’re only doing Intel at first. What’s really cool is that we’re only using the nForce chipset for Intel, because it’s the best chipset, but we’re also giving the choice of CrossFire or SLI on it.

Sorry, did you just say you were running CrossFire on an nForce SLI chipset?

Rahul: That’s correct.

How do you do that?

Rahul: With a little bit of Voodoo magic! *laughs* It’s all a part of the whole Voodoo DNA thing, and working with our partners to make it happen.

What does Nvidia think of this?

Rahul: You know, that’s a very good question! If I could look at the face of my Nvidia ref right now and see what he was thinking, I’d probably say that he gets it. I think Nvidia understands that Blackbird is a game-changing system. In other words, it’s no longer about the technology inside the machine; it’s about the customer experience. That is how we designed Blackbird, and that is why we’re agnostic when it comes to components.
