My whole computer system at the moment is being frustrating, so i'm just going to purchase a new mobo, CPU, and ram. I need help with the mobo and ram, I will decide on the CPU as xmas rolls around. I want a Core Duo system.

here is the ram i am thinking about

I really don't know where to start for motherboards, i've looked at some but i just havn't been keeping up with the new computer technology to really be confident. I want to spend less than 100.

And i'd like to OC, but i don't have to OC my brains out.

You might join the "Let Intel not become the one and only in the year 20XX" campaign and chose AMD for political reasons. :)
Better future for all of us.

Grab a 5000+ Black Edition CPU, plus Gigabye 5xx or Biostar tForce 5xx board and average Crucial PC2 6400 RAM.
5000+ Black Edition = apparently the best OC CPU AMD built in years. :toast:

if you're thinking allendale (ie. you're in that price range) just go with the 5000+ black it'll be better overall
that mushkin ram isn't bad at that price, though you can get cheaper if you're ok spending a bit more now and having sending in a mail in rebate

well hell, all your not buying is the video card, and hdd so why not just go for a whole new rig and sell your rig as is with the 80gb ide hdd and use the 160gb sata hdd in the new rig you build? you will probably get the most money for it selling it as a whole working system instead of piecing it out and waiting for buyers. heck if your lucky they will want the monitor too and you can upgrade to a bigger and better one.

well if i were buying it would be: (all prices are from newegg)

motherboard - gigabyte P35 DS3L $90 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128059

ram - A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit $55 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820211066

thats $145 for ram and board

and any core 2 duo would work great with that setup but my cpu choice would be - Q6600 $280 http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115017

ditto to both of those. though if he wants he can get a more expensive gigabyte one if he wants more features. i would go with the q6600 if it fits with the budget. otherwise a e4300 w/ 1333 fsb mod isn't terrible.

ok, P35 boards lots of choises, sli? or not .. I liked the Gig boards but ultimately choose the Asus p5k-e 150- discounts.. and GET the crucial chips, BEST chips money can buy, and forget the hype, 6400 is the same chip as 8500, my 6400 two 1 gig matched chips, cricial ballistix are cool, 2.3 volts stable, 1125 with latencies of 5445 etc.. and now on sale at WE for 50.00 90- 40 MIR so, they use the d9 chip, get them!
Anyway I added the Conroe, e6850, but its a tossup as to what you want, for me a dual core was fine, I got mine 270.00 free shipping... all in all, before my install messups, noob errors all, I spent LESS on my upgrade than I plan on getting for my old mobo and fx 60 939 cpu! and other parts

If you go AMD, they are not quite clocking as fast for oc'ing, if you are not oc'ing and just want a good fast chip for gaming shop around no need for a quad and lots of great deals out there in the mid 100's. "GOOD LUCK and GOOD NIGHT" LOL
