Water Cool or Fan Cool

I was wondering if it was worth it to get a water cooling kit instead of all out air cooling. If so what kit would you recommend.

of course i would recommend water, but if you're going air, a thermalright ultra 120 w/ a 110 cfm 40dba silverstone fan will serve you well for the cpu. and for gpu, an hr 03 rev a with a good 92mm fan will do the trick nicely. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109140 w/

a good water cooling system will do you a lot better then air, but the risks also increase. the thermalrights cannot fail, they are made to run passive, and will give you stock cooler temps when the fan fails, no big risks with air cooling. in water cooling, if your pump fails, or there is some tubing fault or the fans fail, you might be in trouble. btw dont forget http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=43516 those for your 8800gt.

Depends on what you mean by worth it. If your only OC your Quad to 3Ghz, then no its not worth it and go for air. If your planning on hitting 4Ghz, then yes, water is not only worth it, it is necessary if you want to save your chip. Air is obviously cheaper, but will not let you OC as high as you could with water. Depends on what you are planning to do.

I went water cooling mainly to silence my pc. I thought motherboards could turn off your computer if your cpu starts to overheat? aint there an option for that?

hmm these seem quite pricey.. would a premade kit for about 160 be any good or should i just cool with thermalright 120 extreme and a hr 03 for 8800gt..

I'd go with Thermalright 120 Extreme + HR-03 for the 8800GT instead. Even though your system will be somewhat heavier, water cooling is a fuss to maintain at times.

My advice, if your going to go water cooling, don't settle for something cheap. When it comes to water cooling, you should buy a setup that's on the higher end of the market price wise. A bad water cooling setup can lead to much aggravation and plenty of headache down the road.
