AS/5 used to hold ram heatsinks on video card

Hey I tried it and it works put a dot of it under every heat sink and it holds great. Ac5 is so sticky it holds. Plus you can remove it aswell. Anyone know of a poential problem here.

Na it actually gets sticker as it heats up and expands according to the web page, ever tried to take a heasink off after AS5 has been on it ? It is so strong if your not careful it will pull the cpu out. I also would rather not use a true adhesive because I would like to remove them sometime. I have benched the crap out of the card and its upsidedown and they are still on.

you will find this hard to believe but my ram heatsinks are still on and secure.

Yeah I used AS5 on the ramsinks on my X1800XT, it did FINE.

besides the off chance that the as5 might react with the plastic in some way seeping trough it i see no possible downsides

I wouldn't use it for anything other than mounting heatsinks on say a video card but like I said have you ever tried removing a heatsink on a cpu with AS-5 on it, it's very strong stuff.

Just be careful man.. My bro did that with his X1950pro and a VF900.. he bumped the pc when it was running and one fell off and shorted his mobo out!!! :eek:

I have also heard stories of them falling off and frying the mem chip.. killing the gfx card!!

Just spend the $10 and get some of the AS5 2 part adhesive. If you put a small drop just in the middle of the chip you can actually twist the ramsink later on and snap it off without damaging the card..

If you really don't want to get some of that then at least stick a dab of hot glue on the side of the ramsink to hold it on a little more secure...

Someone on tpu said before you can mix epoxy mix with as5 so the epoxy does not "glue" the sink on permanently.. also when using the AS5 adhesive, mix it with a 60% AS5 and 40% Adhesive ratio or something like that...

I should of just ordered the AS adhesive :p but I hope the sticky pad that comes with the swiftech sinks hold.. I'll even leave my pc upside down for some burn in time.
