Hey all,

I'm looking for an Adaptec 29320LPE or similar card (e.g. LSI20320IE, Dell PERC/4E). The card must be PCI-E x1/x4/x8 and support 68pin Ultra320 and have at least 1x internal connector. Because cash is real tight right now due to being scammed by LogitechFreak, I'm looking mainly to trade for this or pay a little cash + trade. Here's my FS post: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=31455.

Thanks guys,

If you're connecting 1-2 drives you might want to consider a single channel U160 controller, they're dirt cheap on e-bay. I highly doubt anyone here has any modern SCSI hardware for sale since nearly nobody uses it. Besides, PCI-e U320 controllers don't come cheap.

I have got a few of them here.... let me get my hands on one and I will let you know

EDIT : Does it HAVE to be Adaptec ? I think I have both LSi and Adaptec, but I just want to make sure.

Also, Dan... we use SCSI all the time. The only time we dont use SCSI is when we are using SAS drives

Well, its 4x Ultra320 147gb SCA80 drives...I'm going to get some 80 to 68 pin adapters OR a SCSI cage to put in my 5 1/4" drive bays. The drives go for about $400 each, they were pulled from a server. I have no preference really on the card, but I'd prefer Adaptec. Just so long as the card works in Vista :).

Edit: And thanks Dan, I actually was looking into the Adaptec 29160, but I'd really prefer to make the most of my 320 drives, especially with 4 running.

Freebies...my dad works for Yale and they threw out one of their servers. We asked if we can take the drives and they let us. They even still have the hot-swap cages on them. We got a couple PowerMac G4 QuickSilvers too from them.

We? There are only a hand full of people here using this kind of hardware...

As for the extra information given, those 4 drives will fill a single U160 channel easily. So the U320 controller is a better idea. However to offer another alternative, if you have PCI-X slots (otherwise PCI will bottleneck, even more than U160) you could go for a dual channel U160 controller, 2 drivers per channel. Still a way cheaper solution.

I am surprised they let you take the drives... not for the value of them but for the data that could be stored on them.

We literally destroy the hard drives here.

That's quite normal at companies, however it's way more fun to open up a tape, hold it and then throw the cartridge through the office in front of your boss. Destruction of data is a good thing, if you're the one doing it.

As for those drives as freebies, lucky bastard :D You could also consider wiping them and selling them and buying other fancy stuff. They sell for quite a lot.

I found this and this. I just don't want to run the cards on PCI because I don't have a PCI-X slot. Running them on PCI will severely hamper their speed.

They wrote 0's to the drives before giving them to us. I could sell them, but I want speed :)

Edit: And for my computer to sound like a jet engine.

Heh, I'm all set on the mobo. I'm currently running an E6300 and I'm stepping up to a Q6700 through the Intel Retail Edge bundle. I'm also going up to an eVGA 680i A1 mobo.

But the PCH-DL can run 4 threads as well and clock past 3GHz with ease :)
I even have the CPU's to do so.

Doh! I just happen to have a 29160 here :)

But without a 64bit PCI / PCI-X slot it wouldn't be the best of options...
