I think it would be better placed in between the "Post Reply" button and the page picker thing, on the top of the page, under the tool bar with the user cp, faq, new posts, search, and logout links. It's really not AS bad, to me anyways, as a lot of people are describing it though.

Ads are what makes the world go round! We have the ability to have them in numerous places on our site. And, I for one is for anything that makes this site stay. I know I'm a noob at this site, and a lot of people have more to give then I do, but I still want to see this site run at the best way it can.
Namslas90 and I were talking yesterday on Skype about how he found a particular stick of ram that had TPU as the review site to go to on it. We're getting our name out there and I believe that this site can stay.

I like the ideas that Zek is showing. If they were in the banners or on the sides of the page, it wouldn't be so bad, but the ones just below the posts are driving me crazy.

if its time for ads at this site then the site as i know it is finished.

as soon as you have ads you will have spammers surfing the site sending you to sites and directing you to click on the ads. you cannot have advertising without having spammers.

once the dog lays a turd you WILL have flies buzzing around, its unavoidable.

this site will never be the same again and i will miss it. i only hope i am able to find another site that can come close to being as well run as this one was.

I think one (i.e. Wiz) would be crazy not to have ads on their site if it got as much traffic as this.

That said, the lack of such intrusive advertising is also one of the things I love about TPU and the forums.

I am not seeing any ads myself so in a way I'm grateful that WIzzard can benefit from advertising $ without affecting my experience, but I wonder if there are better ways to gather ad revenue.

I do find them a bit annoying to me as Zerk pointed out the usually have nothing to do with the topic.. but that ok :p other sites have this if it brings Wiz $$$ than its all good.

I think maybe members with over 100 posts (or another #) should be able to disable em in control panel :p If you have so many posts already you usually know what your looking for and it should be optional :p Thats just me, if you think its a good idea Wiz than maybe make a poll to see what the whoe comunity things.. we have alot of visitors here too and they wil still see the adds.

edit: I also had 2 adds under each other once :O

edit: I just noticed the adds are only under the 1st post/page.. thats not bad at all.

i dont like the ads, but if you need to them support the site then i say the more the merryer! also, id pay a nominal fee to TPU to disable such ads. i say this assuming the money goes to keep the site up and running.

Still, I'd have no problem paying a small fee for ad removal, and if the ads being there helps TPU as a whole then, IMO, that's fine.

I still kinda like the idea of offering advertisement removal to senior members; again, I think 1 year and/or 1000 posts would prob be ideal. Not many people stay around forums for a year or 1000 posts. From glancing through the thread again, there seems to be a lot of senior members (and newbies) ready to up and leave if the advertisements become permanent, and I get the feeling that would end up hurting TPU more than helping.

Possibly another idea, for those that have payed their "dues", having some kind of title or emblem under their user name or avatar that identifies them as a "Donating Member" - at least so that their financial contribution doesn't go ignored by the community as a whole, y'know?

Either way, it appears right now that the community is for the most part divided between it being a good or bad idea. Perhaps compiling all the major options into a poll and putting it to a vote might help to reach a fair and amiable solution?

Alright a couple of things. I think ads in places like where zek put them, that's great. Good use of existing webspace. Where they are now....I got to be blunt it sucks. I mean it's just so annoying. They bother me now....even if they change or something I don't like where they are. Please do something like move them, then maybe the whole donating or senior member thing.

i like your idea's, but i'm not quite a "senior" member yet. but still i'd be happy to give some money to cover the forum. the ads are fine, just not in the threads. banner adds at the top would be fine. but these suck

The ads at first were interesting, I'm neutral with them. They will not drive me to leave by any means, but will slightly hinder my TPU viewing experience. In the end, TPU is a profit organization, and if there can be profit from the ads placed in this forum that will help with the cost of upkeep (and possibly the creation of GPU :D ), then we should support it.

One suggestion would be not to have two ads (at least from what I've seen thus far) after the first post of each thread, one ad is fine, but two is annoying. I wouldn't mind one after the first post and one banner between the last post and Quick Reply though.

As for donations to TPU, that's not a bad idea in a sense, but in a way I don't believe that's necessarily a good way to show TPU support. In my eyes, supporting TPU is by helping others and creating a positive place for others to enjoy. If this site came to a subscription, then there better be more perks than just posting in a forum. I enjoy supporting, helping and learning here and have never enjoyed an online establishment like I have TPU, nor have I been a member of one for so long (aside from my own creations in the past). Sure a donation would be cool, but a subscription would not...that is just my opinion.

I'm proud of what I've done thus far on TPU, and I really do enjoy this place, a couple of ads won't be too shabby as long as they stay in context with PC hardware/gaming. I think the primary or only donations from users should be that of information, help and creating a positive and kickass place for everyone to enjoy. So if ads must be placed on TPU, space them out one top, one bottom (if allowable by contract for proper profits), and let's just all get over it and enjoy this place. TPU has grown and is becoming more successful and recognized every day, this is just a part of that growth. Depending on the direction W1z wants to go with TPU, there will always be some who do like it, some whom are neutral and some whom hate it and leave, in the end, it's his creation and his decision. Thanks for your time!
