Ok, PSU is my weak spot

Me and my friend are in need of new PSU. Good for gaming systems, reliable (from a good company), future proof (need to have some headroom), yet cheap (relatively).

So far I'm thinking about this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817170010

Please tell me what you think or suggest a different one.
Thanks!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I don't think that I will be going SLI or CF anytime soon, but who knows... it's better be prepared..

hell no, that 20 buck POS is not going in your system. try a corsair 520x, antec neohe 550 (these 2 are expensive but top notch), or how about an ocz 600w? see the psu guide in the general hardware section for more good brands, its under contruction so sorry about that.

cheap psu can fail and damage your system as well as make parts fail due to unstable power supply. anything under $50 is not worth using and probably wont last, for an inexpensive but good psu use this:

ePOWER ZU-550W ATX12V Version 2.0 / EPS12V 550W Power Supply for $55

I'm still looking at PSU's, but I want to ask if SLi certified means that it supports Crossfire too. does it or no?
and how is 80% efficient certification is important?

the certifications are absolute BS most of the time, if your psu has the power & cabling to support sli/x-fire then it will work. the certification just means that folk at nvidia/amd have tested the psus and found that they work with sli/x-fire though you'd need to look up the badge more cause the badge could be certification for the sli of 2 like 7050 cards

some guy on new egg said there is some negative side to that...

24pin, easier to plug in/remove but no compatibility with the older mobo's (which no one uses). 20+4 harder to plug, unplug, but backward compatibility.

some guy on new egg said there is some negative side to that...

its because the 20/24 pin psu have the 4 pin plug slide into a slot or groove to connect them together, but most are not well made and dont stay together unless held together. the 4 pin plug is often made without a seperate locking clip (they assume the 20 pin connector will be holding it in) so if you have a seperate 4 pin terminal the 4 pin plug isnt secured well in the motherboard and can work loose on its own.

those are the negatives but you shouldnt be buying a 24/20+4 plug psu unless you require one. the psu is not i repeat NOT a place to skimp or try to save money. that would be like buying a brand new car only to drive it on bald tires, it will bite you in the azz and cost you more money later.

Little red voltage switches = weaksauce. Too many times they have been flipped and caused system failures.

Newer/modern PSU's have a voltage regulator. If ye cross the pond, you won't need to flip any switches, it'll just work.

Find your cheap-o PSU's if that's the money you want to spend on it, search for a review on that particular model.

Here's a couple "Budget" PSU round-up's that may help you. Or confuse you more. I dunno.

5 @ HardOCP

4 @ Anand

4 @ Hardwarecanucks

All the crap they test for is a little confusing at first. Just read over the conclusions if you don't feel like learning it all. If you're running low-mid end products at stock speeds, a crappy PSU will probably work for you.

A review on that SeaSonic on your list too...

I narrowed it down to just 3 PSU's.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103940
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371002

The choice was based on warranty (haha, This just shows my poor knowledge of PSUs) period and one PSU had loud buzzing sound...

EDIT: I want to include the last one, thanks fafa21 for this amazing deal:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182069

EDIT 2: Newegg is down, again...

Here is what I got after farther review

I'm also thinking of Corsair, but the price for 620 is too high, while 550 is not available...
and I'm not sure about Rosewill PSU anymore, the PSU guide says its pretty bad, but i also read somewhere that they started to make good psu's recently, but i don't know if that deal worth the risk

both are good choices but the ABS Tagan is a much better choice IMHO and they put the 800watt on sale so its cheaper than the 700 watt rite now

ABS Tagan ITZ Series ITZ800 ATX12V / EPS12V 800W Power Supply $99 after mir + it also has some combo deals

Power Supply Antec NeoHe 550-manufactured by seasonic -replacement to the discontinued smart power series
Software Windows XP pro SP2 -- vista is still crap
rosewill is not a good psu and cooler masters are a mixed bag. i'd say the neohe would be the best in three that you listed(i have myself), though keaker's tagan psus are also very good. im not sure if the antec basiq & true power trios are channellwell or seasonic, that's why i say for antec, grab either a neohe, quattro or earthwatts
