2007 was a disappointment as far as PC Gaming. (I read the article on PC World and it inspired me.)

2006 Dec/Nov Geforce 8 Series came out. I spent my hard earned money to wait for almost 1 year for DX10 Games.
Only to find out that 2 8800GTS in SLI can't even get the job done for Crysis in DX10.

So I pawned off those two cards and got a G92 8800GTS that is even faster than the older GTX and Ultras.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit. (If I didn't get this for free off of technet then I would be really mad.)
No new file system
User Account Control
64-bit requires driver signing in the Kernel
Takes 2x the RAM and CPU of XP with a 1/3rd performance hit.

Vista has disappointed me at every turn.

DX10 is a JOKE. And I mean it. CRAP. Bad Performance for not much gain in Quality.

For that matter 64bit CPUs. Is anyone really using them? What I mean is, Writing 64 bit only software? Everything I have seen (except at work)
is better off on 32bit Vista or XP.

Did I mention that every Hardware Manu factor form Creative and Nvidia to Linksys has failed to get good drivers out for vista?
(In a reasonable amount of time.)

-----------------------------------
The only things that were good in PC Gaming this year IMO.
sequels (Mainly EA milking its franchise of titles.)

C&C 3
MOH Airborne

FEAR's 2nd Expansion Pack.
HL2 ep 2. (Good and I may buy Team Fortress 2 later. After I finish Crysis.)

I would say that overall Microsoft has failed us here in PC Gaming.
Games for Windows, should be call Games for PC's so Microsoft can sell more Xbox 360's.
Does limiting PC games to console multiplayer numbers and interfaces, really seem like a step forward?
====================================

All of this being said. I am taking up Hunting/Fishing/Camping/Hiking this next year and playing some Paint Ball. I suggest you
do the same. At least then you can only complain about the weather. (But don't get me started on that.)

Crysis (Loved that game)

Bioshock (Another great game)

COD 4

I was pleased Game-wise, this was my 1st real year of gaming/custom computer. I was and still am a bit disappointed with Vista for it does not always install well for me, and on a fresh install it might take a couple more to install my software's properly elc... lol Like my Razor mouse software for instance.

hardware-wise it seemed like a messy year but I found it decent except for the initial 8800 series release.. c2d was great/perfect.

That is great that you guys have just started this year. Also I'm glad that people found stuff they liked in 2007.

I agree with the one guy about COD4. That demo was Awsome and I need to buy that. Also Gears of War for the PC might be cool.

Orang Box. Yes, TF2 is a must. I will get it after finishing Crysis.

Hardware disappoints big time this year. Lack of competition stunts the growth of industrial standards. The progress of software has been asynchronous to hardware, which had its direct impact on the consumer. This year the gaming industry certainly saw the PC lose to the console in terms of sales of game titles and comparison of console hardware sales to PC gaming hardware sales (such as video-card sales).

I've been gaming since the N64 Goldeneye era, but only started PC gaming at my cousin's insistance so that we could play together. This was around 1996. Considered I'm 16, I think that's impressive
but yeah, I have to say hardware-wise this year has had some good deals, and gaming-wise some great games HAVE come out, but DX10 is just hype, and there wasn't enough this year to actually quantify me buying a supercomputer to play some of them.
I'm ordering an 8800GTS (G92) but it's like, well, I don't care about being up on the trend..if I can play well, then it's alright by me, but I won't shell out £500 for a top-level quadcore.

Damm right, who can afford to anyway?

A modest overclock on mid-level components is where it's at bru. :toast:

exactly mate :toast:
and you ask who can afford to? My friend has two 8800 Ultras in SLI and has done since release date.
That's the kind of weird WTF-factor I mean, haha

I think it was alright. We got BioShock, the Orange box, STALKER, and of course Crysis. However, as far as support for the games went (drivers are an issue across the board, Vista is at this point a bloated turd, and DX10 hardware is a joke), this year was abysmal.

I would say it was an ok year. Good games came out, some pretty decent hardware was released.

You do have a point though 1strive. Any Vista flavor has been a disappointment.

I enjoy PC gaming not just because of the games but also the hardware.

For me the game performance has been somewhat of a dissapointment.
Too much eye candy and not enough playability.
Console ports to PC haven't been very good either.

I'm playing Colin Mcrae DiRT atm.
This console port is a bit of a crapper although plays fine on my machine after figuring out the reason for this graphic corruption in the main menu.

This is what happens if I don't have geometry instancing enabled.

There were a few good games to come out and I'm definitely pleased with my current hardware bought from this year. There are always ups and downs when releasing new technology and software. I will admit though that Vista and DX 10 were very big disappointments. I don't plan on making the switch over until I absolutely have to or it's offered to me for free.

there have been same wicked deals this year like the 2900pros, you just cant beat the card for the price also the 8800's are just awesome, although there were a few companies that droped teh ball like microsoft and amd, although amd did have its redeaming products like their new series of graphics cards
ohh btw i still play goldeneye, still one of my favorite games:roll::rockout:
vista and dx10 was a disappointment alothough thats a little in part for 3rd party companies not releasing drivers for vista in a timely manor although dx10 isnt really worth upgrading but crysis in dx10 and dx9 side by side there is a big difference between the 2 things look so much more bitching on my friends dx10 rig than my dx9 one
games just kicked alot of ass so many came out that i didnt know which ones to start on (im still trying to catch up) so far to me this has been one of the best years for games that have awesome gameplay and the graphics to back it up
