i'm thinking about upgrading to intel 775 socket, whats the best processor and chipset that overclocks the best, and what chipset is better intel or nvidia, i'm really not concerned about the price thanks!!!

the intel x38 is currently the best lga775 chipset out there. nvidia's 680i sli cannot work with quads correctly (however nvidia is working on a fix) so therefore as of now, intel chipsets are a lot better then nvidia's, however this might change with the upcoming releases of the x48 chipset for intel (but this is very similiar to the x38 chipset, im not sure exactly of the difference but its not a huge one), and the 780i chipset for nvidia (theres a lot of speculation about this chip, for example, it has been speculated that the southbridge is a 680i chip and it also an amd CFX chip in order to enable crossfire X on the chipset). for now, i would recommend the gigabyte x38 dq6 here:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128068
a flaw with this board's bios, as alerted to me by namslas90, is that the bios cannot work very well with 4 gigs of ram(especcially with a 64bit os such as vista 64bit) , however gigabyte is fixing that up. so i would definently recommend this board . however if the board is too expensive, the gigabyte p35 ds3 series or the gigabyte p35 dq6 will do a very nice job as well

of ocurse though i'd wait a few weeks for the new intel penryn 45nm chips to come out.

For budget/overclock id recommend a e6750 and a p35 motherboard like the dfi blood iron or similar. The e6750 overclock nicely and is a lot cheeper than the e6850.

If price isn't an issue, go all out. Nice x38 with a yorkfield, watercooling, good ddr2 ram (ddr3 is faster, but not really worth it imo), dual 3870s....that'll be a nice system. For a more reasonable budget, q6600, p35, crucial ddr2 800mhz ram, 8800 gt or gts (g90) or hd3870.

both are EXCELLENT chips, its up to you. many people will argue that quads are better, and many will argue that duals are better. its up to you, as you're going to be paying for and using your system.

exactly, someone wanted to run things like photoshop, power director, cpu intensive things like them, you're better off with the quad, however with older games which aren't optimized for multi-core systems (however many are) then you're better off sticking with dual. remember, you cannot just multiply the number of cores by the speed to get the effective power of a cpu but a quad will give me more power then a dual.

for sli, you'd want to grab an evga 680i a1 or t1 motherboard. the a1's are on backorder so you'll most likely end up with a t1. and you're getting off with the e6850 cpu on the 680i chipset.

i cant seem to find a x38 mobo that supports nvidia sli, it seems most of them are all crossfire, thats lame, so if i wanna go sli, i should be looking at nivdia chipset, btw is doesnt make any sense, we all know nvidia cards are faster along with intel cpu's, then why would they make intel boards that support crossfire, when intel and nvidia is the way to go

Yeah you'll have to go 680i or 780i for sli. If you do go that way, get a dual as pancho said, nvidia can't really overclock Intel quads that well unless you get an extreme edition with a unlocked multi....well I think anyways.

not fully, the hacked drivers only work with geforce 6k & 7k 8k cores (for ex. 8800gt) wont work with the hacked drives. high end video cards tend to do better with intel cpus because they are more powerful then amd chipsets. amd's phenom cpu's bottleneck the performance of the 2900xt and the like..

damulta will know more about palit, but you shouldn't have a problem, theres not that much of a difference between video card companies.

i heard the 8800gt palit cooler's are one of the best there, for overclocking and produce less noise, compared to other 8800gt's, i think im gonna buy it, i'll post back and let u all know, whats scores i get etc.....

well intel would have to obtain rights to implement nvidia's sli into the chipsets and then spend time developing it correctly. nvidia has to work with intel to do this and intel has to pay nvidia good money for sli. so thats why currently its CF only, however i believe that intel has agreed with nvidia about obtianing rights to use sli or something..
