well i had this problem in this thread http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=48429 over in software

im still up at 5 am trying to solve it treating as a hardware problem and i came across this! (attached jpeg)


trust me at this moment in time it actually feels like 319 mhz, it read 312 mhz before, i was at 325 fsb / 2.6ghz, then i oc'd a bit more to 333 to see what would happen and the figure changed to 319.

any ideas? whats going on?!

or possibly even underclocking it

have u tried doing some online adware/antivirus scans ? seeing as u dont seem to b ableto run them on your actual pc.

right i will try default settings after the utd match!

should i just go into bios and load optimized defaults? btw bios reads the cpu at its proper speed of 2.6ghz so whats up with windows?

i went into bios and loaded optimized defaults, and now system properties is reading 192 mhz

i suppose its possible uve killed the cpu ,but if so strange why its still working ,if u can call it working when running at that speed.

try safe defaults ,double check the cpu settigns are all on auto for default speed.
failing that no idea,only thing i can suggest is checking in another cpu if u can to chheck if the board is working ok.

im still on eset scanning, 2 hours and 50% done so far and nothing, i will mess about in bios after its done. i have a dell sitting next to me so i will check it out with the p4 later too

any viruses ever do something like this? why is i cpu-z / everest / coretemp all read the cpu as 1.6ghz whilst system properties reads 192mhz? wtf?

bios reports 200 x 8, when i overclocked i made sure everything like speedstep was disabled.

update: so i swopped out my celly 420 for p4 530 and the p4 works fine with no probs. of course my celly had worked fine for a month too before this happend, could this be some sort of motherboard issue?

i should inform u guys that i had originally treid to BSEL mod the celly on a different mobo to no avail, tho i treid to clean the paint off best i could but some traces remained, could that cause a problem? it hasnt posed any problems before mind. i just dont wanna leve this comp in the hands of my lil sis for it to mess up again cos she wont have a clue what to do!

What temps? BIOS temps after running windows a few minutes, and those out of everest, as well as what everest is reporting.
