my only suggestion for the vagueish problem description would be to check the event viewer for something a little... more information if it happens to be there..
control panel | administrative tools | event viewer check them all for the time of the crash, and try to gather data if possible so that the problem well has a chance of being solved maybe..

Thanks Zat. I had never looked at event viewer and it had more info than I thought. Seems the problem was a second computer I was trying to network with. Unplugging the ethernet cable fixed the crashes. Explorer must have been looking in the wrong place I guess.

IE 7.

If I left click on a link in gmail (e.g. attached) I get a message saying IE has experienced an eror and must shut down. If I right click and open in a new tab, it works fine.

I also attached what I think is the event.

okies so the only thing i found was that scrchpg.dll is a part of kispersky and because ie is crashing and thats running, my only suggestion at the momment would be to maybe try uninstalling kispersky, reboot, test to see if it occurs.... and post the results of that if you would

scratch the stuff i said, stumbled onto a link with a similarish problem, that has instructions on the best way to clean kis and to repair a windows script... might be worth a read

Sometimes 3rd party apps hanging off IE7 (in Vista) will cause this.

You could try to disable DEP protection for that app. From the Control Panel-System>Advanced Settings>Performance>Data Excecution Prevention. Add IE7 to the list and reboot.

If that doesn't work, make sure all your security settings are in good order. Mine kept crashing until I enabled Windows firewall. (Not quite sure why it was disabled by default. Plus Windows Defender needed to be started in the Services.)

Well I've narrowed this down a bit now. Installing Kaspersky starts the problem, uninstalling it removes it.
Now I got to work out why Kaspersky is playing up. I had a look at their forums and unfortunately it appears people with problems like this arent that welcome:(
Most web pages are fine. The only reliable place I can get a crash is selecting a TPU link out of gmail. Is TPU a bad site?:D
