help finding laptop

K,I want to buy a laptop but I want to customize it and the only place I know about is alienware and they are costy. so what are some other places I can go to check out laptops and customize them? thanks

Well depends on what you want. Gaming laptop? Normal people's laptop? I mean Dell's are just lower end alienwares, or alienwares are higher end dells. If you're going for a really portable notebook, either look into getting a macbook and loading windows onto it, or why not go for the dell 13" xps...it looks nice has a dedicated gfx card and its not fat...or at least shouldnt be, oh and i think its damn sexy.

customize how? I like My acer but not everyone like thier gemston series which was designed by BMW designworks but its easy to work on and the 7720 is 1090.00 at newegg
its 17 inch with the 8600 gt onboard. I went with 15.4 for size and onboard in gma 3100 becuase my desktop almost does games good.

Not really, the exception is the Asus w/e...but that's a different story. Are you looking for this to be portable or not really? B/c I'm starting to think maybe Alienware is the best choice.

Just get a Lenovo T61p. They come with the equivalent of a 8600gt with GDDR3 memory. Plus, they are built like rocks, much more so than any Alienware. The T61p has a titanium roll cage that protects the components.

Well top of the line xps dell has sli 8800 gtx, alienware doesn't. I'd get the top of the line xps.

+1 for the thinkpad. I have had nothing but good experiences w/ my T series notebooks.

my asus g1s is built like a rock i got it for 1500, the same setup from alienware would cost around 3200 when i put the identical system together
i highly recommend it it can play crysis on med-high settings no AA, also i do a lot of photoshop work and some light 3ds work on it

ya one 8800 would be more than enough although battery life is not going to be to good though

well it will probly be plug in on a desk most the time. its for my GF and she like to play a few games sometimes but she will be using it for everything and mite need to take it out sometimes but probly not much. i was think about This one cause she really likes lambos but i would like to have a 8800 in it and i hear the 8600 suck

Um it'd be equal to a core 2 desktop @ around 2.1 ghz, not much of a difference. Maybe 2.0 ghz desktop chip.

8800gtx + sorta portable = 15" alienware...unless there's another 15" with a 8800 gtx.

im running an 8600 in my lappy and its a great card, its not as good as a 2900 or an 8800 but i can handle almost all games out right now(crysis isn't happy) im not sure if you could find an 8800m right now because then you could just swap them out

better yet what ever happened to that thing where it let you plug a desktop card to you laptop? it was a exterior thing. i think asus made it but not sure

that just kinda died, my friend was looking for that a few weeks ago. if you did find it you could but im not even sure if they have been released to the gen public yet, if at all, you might be able to find one on ebay that somebody ripped out of a laptop but im not really sure if that would work, but its a thought

Edit: are you looking to have xp in your system or vista?
