dark monitor

So this monitor I got off of my dad (17", 1280x1024) is great except that it's pretty damn dark. When I go into the Nvidia control panel to brighten things up, to get my desktop looking normal, other things are unproporiotnaly bright... and even then it's impossible to see in Doom3 which is dark in it's own right. In the monitor settings on the monitor itself everything is cranked to 100%.

Is there anything I can do to brighten this otherwise great monitor up?

Nudge the gamma up a little in the NV cp.

Like I said the monitor controls are maxed out, and when I go into the NV control panel to brighten things up to get the desktop looking decent, everything else will look so bright, like folders in windows explorer, etc...

But did you adjust gamma, or just contrast and brightness?

cranking UP the brightness, LOWERING contrast, and LOWERING gamma is producing interesting results...

I found some settings that pass the doom3 test :toast:

Most likely the monitor is just burning out. My monitor at work is progressively getting worse.

what brand is it, also i notice this alot as CRT's from yester year get older, i had to replace my old IBM 17in that came with a brand new Aptivia in 1995 last year. It didnt get dark, but everything was blurry, in games i didnt notice aliasing but images sucked lol
