the sammy will beat the dell hands down, my dad owns a dell ultrasharp, and it fails in comparison to mein, the colors are shaper, things generally look better

the samsung 226bw is 3000/1 with a dvi connection. and i don't quite understand what you mean by panel lottery?? the samsung is by far the easiest to set up and get going, half of the settings are autoconfigured for you

I'd prefer the more natural-looking matt panel as well.

I bought my LG L226WTQ 22" recently. My issue had been between LG and Samsung, but most opinions I got were that the LG's panel is a much better quality than the Samsung's...

Here's a review you might want to read: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/monitors/0,39030120,49294285,00.htm

22" LCDs normally have TN film panels. 24" and above have PVA panels which are better. Not all TN panels are exactly the same. Most 22" TN panels are provided by Chi Mei. The LG panel is provided by LG Phillips and has better dithering features, which helps a lot of TN panels achieve the 16.7 million colors.

And here's a review which doesn't praise the LG so much http://www.digitalversus.com/article-353-2107-35.html though honestly I've never seen that 'negative' halo while gaming that this review mentions.

If I was in the market of a monitor I wouldn't consider lower than 24" as all 22" widescreen panels have the same res as 20" ws panels.
