$700?!

Here, check this out:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130334

2 x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161

Those parts come to about $620 without shipping.

Does he need a power supply? If so take the hard drives off get this one instead:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136178

Then you could afford a power supply if needed.

EDIT: Then also if he wants to go SLi later with the 9600GT he can, the option is there.

Would you like an AMD option of a build also?

Intel is the king right now, but amd is cheaper, and still offers sufficient performance for most things. 8800gt's are faster than the 9600gt, but not by much, and are more expensive.

For AMD, Ok instead of the 9600GT/P5ND/e4500

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128075
Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103194
Video card:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102719

What's nice about the video card is the single slot cooler and has a MIR if needed.

EDIT: The motherboard does support Phenom and can go crossfire if you really end up wanting to do that also. That's about $70-80 cheaper for AMD.

Looks good to me. Can easily use a lesser CPU too if he wants. Even the lowly e2140 should overclock to 2.4 minimum but more like 2.8 without trying and probably 3+ with more volts. Grab a case you like, grab a nice $50-ish power supply, grab a $25 DVD burner. Total shouldn't even be over $500 minus monitor.

DUDe... for 750 i just got

A quad - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115018
4GB Ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211166
a 160 GB HD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075
and a 8800 GTS 512... - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127323

total with combo deal = 754...

you might be spending too much on MOBO with an IP35-E, the DS3L is better for gaming, as it lets you SPLURGE on the vid card and CPU... think about it this way, he can get a 9600GT instead of 8800GTS now youll be $50 under budget + the QUAD will OC to 3.6GHz on that board (i know i have the same CPU/MB combo) and then he can upgrade vid card a bit later on...

3.6GHz is about what you will get with a 6750 due to the crap multi but for $50 you get another 2 cores with another 4mb of cache = more FPS...

OR take out the quad... get an e8400 for about the same price (when/if they get it in stock...) and OC past 4GHz on air. Vid cards are by far the first thing to get replaced in any rig... and they are the most important for games, and they come out with new ones all the time 2 vid cards is a bit of a waste since they dont scale linearly and are a pain in the A$$.

It will be cheaper in the long run to get a 3.6GHz Qaud set up and then just upgrade vid cards as they come out, that rig will last much longer than an 6750, as the 6750 is already bottlenecking videocards.
