Okay, atm i have the case in my avatar. I noticed that when I was messing about with the side off, my CPU temp drops about 4-5*C. :eek: .
What I'm thinking is that cus my cooler has the same fan orientation as the stock cooler, it needs a nice air supply directly inline with it on the side of the case.
I am a bit worried cus when orthos had been running for 3hrs the cores were hitting 65*C. Now I know that it is 20*C away from cut off, but it is too high for my liking. So what I wanted to ask was, if I get this case:



Is it better to leave the side panel with no fans and let the CPU cooler supply itself, or is it better to put a 120mm fan directly in line with the CPU fan. I read a thread the other day asking whether two fans inline are better than one, and it was agreed that the fans would be out of sync and do worse than a single fan.
So i though that what I would do, would be to get the above case, and just have a 120mm front fan and a 120mm exhaust fan.

What do you think??

Just left it idle with the side off, and cpu temp went from 22*C (side on) to 14*C, side off!!! :eek:
My NB temps have dropped too, I'm guessing that this case has eally bad airflow :(

Be advised, however: Tuniq tower 120, Thermalright Ultra 120, Noctua NH-UP12 and other big CPU coolers won't fit unless you leave the door open.

Take a look @ my system specs: Both the case and the coolers haven't arrived, yet, but you'll get an idea of what it will look like.

Ofc, it all depends on your case and / or cooler(s) budget.

Thanks, but too expensive, I'm prob gonna order the one I said, just trying to work out if it works better with a fan on the side or not.

cost less then 60 euros (less then half of the Twin Engine) and both have a 25 cm side fan, and that's from A+Case only: there are many more manufacturers.

You should take the time to make a search: there are hundreds of cases that can match your budget / specs.

As for if it works better with a fan on the side, it should: just try to clear the cables as much as possible because it will improve the air flow.

Yeah but I dont have that much still. A 60 euro case would be £50 in this country and I dont have the money to spend that much on a case. I might just get this one and try it with a cheap 120mm fan on the side and compare the temps, then post back if anyone lese has the same question.

My problem is not about the case, it is about the affect of ventilation for the CPU cooler, whether a fan blowing at it or just a vent inline with it is better.

What I do to further improve airflow is remove the pci slot covers, and just put a 120mm intake fan there, fits perfectly and blows straight on to my graphics card :)

Not enough space with the position of the gfx card. prob only fit a 80mm in there. And when I go Xfire there will be no space! lol

Its too small. i wanted a new case anyway, HDD's are too close to the GFX card, and the PSu is resting on my CPu cooler, worried its gonna warp the board.

the case i linked to has the big 140 in the front.. i have a floppy plugged in behind the front door that opens up.. its just sat in one of the bigger bays..

i have one 120 blowing in on the side and one blowing out at the back.. the case comes with an intake funnel thing that lines up with the cpu if u use a stock type blow down cooler..

the big front fan is the secret.. if the hardrives are kept above and below it the air just blows straight in at the mobo unobstructed..

Temps cannot be that good realistically at idle under air cooling with the kind of overclock you have. Please try Core Temp.

This house is damn cold, and it snowed this morning, so... I can believe that is the right temp.
Also I have C1E on in the bios so it is only running at 2Ghz idle.

Bit warmer in here since this morning but you can still see the temp difference. The top reading on Speedfan is CPU temp, I checked it against the bios.

Is there any fans in the front of that ?. Maybe get one of those cases that MKMods customized lately or even see if you can order one to your needs :p..
