220 cfm fan

Ok currently on the my CPU cooler i have a 120mm 99.6cfm fan. Will i see a decrease in temperature if i upgrade to a 120mm 220 cfm fan?

what fan are you using?

which fan will you be getting? im assuming a delta?

you would more than likely (like 95%) see a reduction in temps, mostly on LOAD

Agreed. That thing will sound like a jet engine running. I had one similar to your old one, but it moved about 120cfm, and I kept it in for about a day before I couldn't stand the noise. 200cfm is a ton of air, but I'd say if you don't mind the noise, you'll probably see a drop in temps.

thats what fan controllers are for

but better get a good one the deltas are monsters

I am going to get a delta fan. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/de12tfexhisp.html I dont care at all about the noise. My mobo has a fan controller built in (3 pin connector). i am using the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler.

+1. I was gonna say about the noise. 220CFM :eek:

Where did you find a 120mm fan that can shift that amount of air???
My 120mm hiper fans shift 50CFM @ 19db. Like snake said that thing is going to sound like a jet engine!!!

Also i was thinking about this fan. http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/deaf12recgrh.html it is 240cfm. I need the best possible air cooling on the market becuase i dont want to upgrade to water cooling just yet!

I haven't looked at the specs on that fan, but chances are the motherboard will not support that fan. Usually a fan that pushes that much air draws too much current for the motherboard to handle.

For a separate fan controller, you should look into something like a Zalman ZM-MFC1 or a Sunbeam Rheobus.

I'd say 30W @ 2.45 A will be too much for mobo. but I might be wrong. Spose it depends on the mobo.

The Sunbeam Rheobus Extreme is rated at 30W per channel. Or a direct connect to the PSU, but that will be awful.

That thinks huge, lol. Mind it doesnt get to hot. Keep it well ventilated. In front of a 220cfm fan maybe. lol!

EDIT:Any thing over 100CFM is risky.

either of the sunbeams will handle it, or you could wire it up @ 7v/10v or hook straight to the PSU 12v

I had bought a Zalman ZM-MFC2 controller along with my new fans (actually bought 2 of these 120 fans), but the POS would not run the fans anywhere below 2000 rpm, which was still considerably louder than I had hoped for. Then the stupid temperature sensors assisted is screwing up my new mobo, which thankfully was able to be RMA'd. Well that is mainly me bitching about the conroller, but for the money I paid for it, I expected a miracle, when all I got was junk that is now a $70 paper weight. I ended up getting a pair of Scythe S-FLEX 1600 rpm fans, which are excellent!

that style of controller is NOT suited for high power fans, i tried my hardcano12 with my old sunons and 1 of my panaflo's :laugh:

thats why ive now got myself a sunbeam rheo

and the hardcano12 is for temps and baby fans

I realized my mistake a little too late :eek:

. It was some sweet looking *bling, but that was all it had going for it. I mainly got it for temperature monitoring first, and fan control second. I ended up using it for a short while for fans only, until it shorted out the board that is :ohwell:

. Learned my lesson :toast:

To advoid blowing my mobo 3pin connector i will connect the fan to my 4 pins molex connectors. RIGHT??? :toast:
