Northbridge cooling for AW9D-Max

Yup, starting to have overheating on my northbridge. Guys think this or a Thermalright HR-05 would fit with my Scythe Ninja?

Does anyone have a Thermalright HR-05 that they are not using and wouldnt mind selling it?

I've got the Noctua NC-U6. It's passive but, although it doesn't have fan support, that doesn't mean you can't add one to it. If only my P5K-SE supported NB temp monitoring, i could tell you the difference between the original and the new one.

It's quite tall, but slim. However, due to the tight space, i doubt you could stick a fan to it.

Don't think so: the fin's height is only 66.1 mm.

have you tried to put a small fan on the N/B?

have you tried to reseat and reapply TIM on the N/B?

enzotech makes an all copper cooler that may work

i picked up a couple of them for $3.99 at a local surplus store

If I do go just the fan route, should I mount the fan on the top or the bottom side closes to the video card blowing the "fins"?

you do realize you will have to "cut" the pipe to remove the NB cooler?

Ketxx says he chopped his and put a fan type cooler on his. Personally it never really overheated on me, but I have really good case ventilation.

It can be rotated up to 120º in order to evade compatibility issues.

Btw: won't replacing all that's included with the pipes, or even some of it, void the warranty? I ask because i'm thinking of getting a rampage formula, when i have the cash for it later on, and it has lots of pipes too.

PWM is the temp of the 4 phase chips that power the CPU IIRC.

@HTC...it will most certainly void the warranty!

I agree the NB is hot on that mobo, but if anything it would be a system temp or mobo temp.

well the TIM could have degraded and its getting hotter than I had it here!!!!
May want to start off just replacing the TIM as suggested and see where that leaves ya!

Once, i had an Asus motherboard and, when i bought a 56 external modem (yeah: that long ago ...), i found out it wasn't detected. After a while, i found out the problem: the COM 2 port was damaged which meant that i could either use the mouse or the modem, but not both.
I was lucky because i found this problem 1 week before the end of the warranty so i took it to the store i bought it from right away and it was fix @ no charge.
A few years back, i had a 9700 PowerColor video board and i had the distinct bad luck of it getting corrupt memory 1 month after the warranty was over ...
Back then, the warranty was of 1 year only.
Warranty has it's perks, i believe.
