i also did the extreme power supply calculator to the best of my knowlege and recieved 312watts which i think is low isnt it?

is 450 watts enough for my specs? my friend suggested i needed a larger amount of watts if im going to be using a duo core and 8800gt
i tried to do that extreme power supply calculator but there were some terms i didn't understand lol, therefore i dont think I filled it out accurately
312 was the estimate

I would go with a 500W+ Corsair. 450 might be a little limited if you upgrade it later. Honestly, for the extra money, I personally would go for one of the higher end Corsair models to save you from needing to upgrade in the future.

And welcome to te TPU forums :toast:

Antec 500watt would be cheaper and do the same thing. They are pretty standard PSU's if you are on a budget but still want reliability.

Antec 500watt Earthwatts should do just fine.

haha how strange, it seems as tho the 650watt corsair is cheaper then the 550 after rebates and the 650 has free shipping.

then I guess the 650 will be a good investment :)

Well i use 180w idle and 395w full load. The GT take much less watts ?. As i know the 2900XT loves electric lol... All so puts me on the sweet spot of my max efficacy according to [H] ( http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/ )

Maybe a HX Corsair would be better like this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

Good place to see reviews would be
anandtech.com
http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/
www.jonnyguru.com

should i still get the 550watt? even though with rebates and such the 650watt is equal price, however that antec mentioned earlier was 500watt and significantly cheaper

ahhhh i cant decide :banghead:

If it's cheaper, then get the 650. I invested $200 in an Enermax PSU back in late 05 and I'm just now upgrading. Definitely worth the investment.

The Earthwatts will suffice, but if you want a PSU you can use for a few years after your upgrades, the Corsair might be a better choice.

Look @ it this way. Do you have the money to spend on the Corsair, or is it really stretching your budget? If you've got the money for it, invest it.

650 is cheaper because it's a mainstream model. VX = Budget, TX = Mainstream, HX = Enthusiast.

Well HX is the modular version. I have that TX 650CMPSU (shame on DD for not telling you :p) and its a wonderful PSU. I mean my voltages are stable and very very close to spec voltages at 3.3v, 5v, 12v and even the 1.3v for my pc (very very very little fluctuations). Its a damn good buy and can handle more than its rated 650w. Corsair goes conservative with their ratings. This will last you a while as well. It should easily handle 2 8800 Gts or 2 hd 3870s no problem. Im not sure on the watts used with gtx, or 9800 series. Oh, 2 9600 GT
s shouldnt be a problem.

Corsair Power Supplies are conservative because they are built well the HX series uses 1 OCP circuit that monitors all virtual rails instead of independent OCP circuit per rail they also use high quality capacitors and have a good de-rating curve of 50'c plus all the extra trimmings like a 5 year warranty and modular cabling.

the VX and TX series is built by Channel Well Technology (also build Thermaltake) not Seasonic.

I had the Rosewill RP550 it was garbage, as a matter of fact any Rosewill PSU I had was...I have the Corsair HX620 and can say without a doubt it is THE best PSU I have ever used. It is so good that I will never use another brand except Corsair for PSUs.
