Should I look at changing my PSU??

Hi,
For some reason, every now and again, my computer will boot from the Backup Bios rom. It uses all the same settings. I have run these settings through orthos and memtest and they are fine.
I have been doing some reading up and heard of some people having Antec SmartPower's crap out on them :twitch:

. I dont want to see my Pc go down the drain :cry:

.
So what do you think?? It did this with the Ram I have now and my Corsair I had before.

If I do need a new PSU what do people think I should get?? I was gonna wait till I got another 3870 for corssfire, but I'm not gonna wait if it means putting my PC at risk

.

For my current setup plus another 3870 I came up with a 650w PSU from extreme power supply calculator.

Future Crossfire Setup:

I usually go for a PSU that would run at about 75% of the load in this calculator, so:

480 / 0.75 = 640W

LOL careful about shipping to the UK (not as cheap as to the US) especially with the weight of a PS.

and Alex.. those guides are very basic (better than nothing but not much)

The Corsair 620 is good for modular, 650 for non-modular. Look at some of the single rail Silverstones too. (I have 6 dead Antec PSS laying around here, they are not my first choice)

yes, Thermaltake Power Supplies are built by CWT they are my second favorite Power Supplies after Seasonic and used by some of the 3DMark world leaders.

Take a look at the new line up by Thermaltake the 'QFan' series.

Well I'm finding that I can get a thermaltake 750w Tough power modular for much the same price as a 650w from another company, so if they are just as good...

Do people think it it what is causing the problem though?? I don't want to spend out on a PSu yet if I dont have to.

Want it modular and I can get A 750w thermaltake Toughpower for that price. Would it be better?

Just wondering if anyone thinks it needs upgrading?? Or is anyone had similar porblems and a PSU upgrade fixed it

Thanks, I usually find Misco is overpriced and it looks so with the ones you said. If I decide to get a PSU I will definetly look at the ones you picked out. Myabe just from somewhere else, lol!

Little as poss really. Looking at £50 if I can. Max £80. Depends on PSU, MFR, Power. If I can get a decent PSU for a good price I might overlook Modular. Just makes it easier, but price can compensate for hassle, lol!

I dont think of 2 3870 as for value minded (more Performance minded)

The Corsair 650 is my first choice, what happened to the thermaltake that calvary1980 mentioned?

I understand the need to keep spending under control for hardware BUT the PS should not be one of those things, get the best one you can.

apparently the GameXstream is a no frills version of its GameXstream cousins. One review site said it had the same PCb as the 700w game version and a zalman. They have just reducced the connectors and got rid of the pretty fan. But same PSu components inside. What do you think of the Hiper I just posted then. It has a combined 12v output of 50A.
