I am upgrading my system - 6800AGP

Have $300 to spend on a new graphics card and motherboard. Will be keeping my E6600 cpu and Corsair XMS2-5400 2GB memory. What would you buy? Oh I have a 19" lcd.

Gaming is what I will be doing mostly.

The BloodIron is great but how experienced are you with overclocking fp_hunter? There are many forum members here who own one, I would still advise against it unless you want to learn exactly what EVERYTHING is, and don't mind sitting at a bios screen for an hour.

Check this one out:

@File

I advise against the P35 line of Gigabytes boards. I have seen/heard too many problems with them. Go down lower and get the P31 if you want to buy a Gigabyte.

Nice board file, now we gotta find a different vid card. P35 = Crossfire, my options above gives him at least SLi in case a second card is wanted.

Hmmmm .....

Impossible to trust an open box unless it is less then .10 cents or something

The X1950GT is good, but it's open box which means it's already been used. I would go for a 3850, and then add a second one when needed, I've seen somewhere that crossfire is not that worse on P35 than on a X38/X48.

P.S. Spearman, this is twice in the same thread where we type posts at the same time...

I have always had good experience with ASUS and Nvidia chipsets:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131142

Also a 8800gt or 9600gt would do great:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150277

I would get the 8800gt though, as they are about 10-20% better.

So thats $260 with the 9600gt or $280 with the 8800gt, after rebate. :D

I would also not suggest Open Box items. Most of the time the accessories are missing, and could have problems the company didn't test for.

Ok Thanks All

Thanks for the info - for sure looks like the EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB but will have to look into the motherboards some more. I have had Asus & Abit motherboards in the past and both served me well for overclocking.

Thanks

Yea, the evga 8800GT will definitely treat ya well. For 190 dollars it's a steal compared to the $300 I paid for mine back in December. For mobo definitely go with a P35. They're awesome to overclock!
