This update improves application compatibility in Windows Vista by using the following methods:
• The update puts a hard block on the application. A hard block prevents an application that is incompatible with Windows Vista from running on the operating system.
• The update puts a soft block on the application. A soft block provides notification when an application that is incompatible with Windows Vista starts to run.
• The update improves the application’s functionality in Windows Vista.

Would have been nice if they indicated which applications were actually improved as opposed to just hard or soft blocked.

This is huge as it adds compatibility for a lot of older software that people might still use. Microsoft just did a +1 on this (not that I run any of that older software).

Yeah, Some of that stuff is fairly old. Maybe they got lucky with some of it by fixing it for newer stuff ?.. But still it's a good step it seems.

I haven't had a real problem with newer stuff at all. Most of my older software worked anyway, either by default or through Compatibility Mode.

Wish i could say the same. All so noticed how much slower Vista was today when after about 6 hours of using Vista and booted in to my XP x64 install it was much faster. Maybe when i get the chance of a reinstall of vista and not adding that SP1 will help.. I don't want to try removing SP1 again as last time it went into a continues reboot with hard drives making a lot a re setting sounds. Don't sound good when 5 HDD do it at once lol.
