So I got my new motherboard yesterday and installed it replacing my DFI Lanparty LT x38. There is nothing really wrong with it other than the fact that my interest in SLi has been peaked. I do have my old quad core rig that has been shoved off to the corner (in pieces) waiting a motherboard and I think the x38 will suit it well. Im hoping to sell that off locally instead of parting it out at first.
Instead of starting off with small overclocks, im going right into the heavy stuff. I should mention that the board I know possess is an EVGA 780i SLi motherboard. My 680i was great except for the fact that it didnt like my Q66 that much.
Anyway, here I will post my overclocking results whether they be failure or not. I will be using SuperPi, 3DMark06, and Prime95 x64. I will provide screenshots when I feel it is worthy of one.
I am starting off my adventures at 3.5GHz (3500MHz) stable or otherwise and will work my way from there. If anyone has any guidance that they would like to share, please do. All comments and suggestions are welcome!
To cool the processor, instead of using IC Diamond 7 I am using MX-2 by Arctic Silver and the CPU HSF is the Thermaltake V1 (soon to be replaced by the MaxOrb EX around release)
System specs are as follows:
Intel X3350 (Q9450) stock is 2.66GHz C1 Stepping
EVGA 780i SLi A1 Motherboard
OCZ 850w GameXstream PSU
G.Skill DDR2-800 (4x1GB) 5-5-5-15 2T
OCZ RAM Cooler
XFX 8800GT 600/900 (will overclock later)
Thermaltake Armor computer case
1x250GB 32MB cache Seagate hdd, 1x250GB 16MB WD hdd, 1x250GB 8MB WD hdd
Creative X-Fi Xtremegamer Sound Card
Without further ado, I will provide my current settings for my overclock:
CPU Multi = 8x
FSB = 1750 (essentially 437x8) nVIDIA based boards go by QDR which is FSB*4=QDR (eg 437x4=1750 approx)
CPU vcore = 1.35
RAM = 2.2v
FSBv = 1.4
SPP/NB = 1.45
SPP<>MCP = 1.25
Will Prime while im doing my homework and pray that it doesnt freeze and loose it all.
If all proves well while priming, Ill keep this thread updated with results.
