more than likely, the 4870 will probably be dual slot at first. I'm sure Sapphire, and possibly some other brnads, will probably offer a single slot card as well sometime after release.

TBH - if you're in the market for a new generation card, I'd recommend being patient and waiting a bit, at least until the 4870s are out. If you're still in the market for an ATI card, keep an eye out for the likes of Sapphire, HIS, ASUS and a couple others - they tend to have their own cooler designs meant to address any heating issues with the cards.

The mid-range lineup (VisionTek, ATI, Diamond) all tend to use the same cooler, so cooling peformance will be about the same with any of them. Their cooling solutions aren't typically as efficient as the upper-end cards, either.

4870 is dual-slot.

I say go with the 4850, low power, quiet, single-slot...and as fast as a 9800GTX, faster in alot of cases, only $199:)

And runs quite hot, but I think most aftermarket coolers out there that fit the 3870 cards might fit the 4850.

All that fit the 3850 will work, they share the same PCB. The card runs within spec, it's just hotter than we like it, doesn't mean there is a problem, it's a fine sacrifice for a quiet, single-slot, wicked fast card:D

both within a few % of each other, with fantastic performance at the 199$ price point.

its just your personal choice on which brand you prefer.

What kind of monitor? Less than 22", 4850/9800gtx would do ya good. 22" or greater, wait for the 4870 if $299 is within your budget.

Yes, 9800GTX or the HD4850. Keep in mind, you will need 2 PCI-e plugs for the 9800GTX thou. Also, dual-slot doesn't mean that it will take two PCI-e slots, it means it will take up two slot spaces.

wait so dual slots just means it takes up alot of space, so i only need to plug a 9800gtx in one graphic slot, but it takes up two spaces as if there was two cards.'

edit 1: so plugs and slots are different!

Power supply and monitor size and motherboard are all important when considering which video card is best. If you go to the user control panel and fill out your system specs there that would be good.

The 9800GTX+ will be coming out, the HD4870 comes out this week. The HD4870 will be faster, but will cost $299.

HD4870 $299 > 9800GTX+ $220 > HD4850 $199 > 9800GTX $199

500 watts may be pushing a 4870 or higher. Also at that screen res, 4850 should do ya more than ok.
