9800GT Spotted in the Wild

The other day I was walking through Circuit City and say the HP Blackbird 002 on sale. This was one of them with the clear side panel made special for display purposes. I saw that it used SLi Single Slot graphics cards, and I wondered what they were(I though 9600GT at first). To my surprise they were actually reported as 9800GTs! :eek:

I wasn't aware that they had been released yet. So I just put it off as HP shipping a demo system with hardware that wasn't available yet. And when I got home I looked up HP's Blackbird site and saw no mention of the 9800GT.

However, today I got the newegg news letter, and in it was the Blackbird with dual 9800GTs. :rockout:

I haven't really heard any news about these cards. I wasn't even aware that they were released, but it seems they are. Anyone have any specs on these cards? Are they going to be available to OEMs only, or will they eventually make their way to the public?

According to that, it is still a 65nm G92. It seems to be just an updated 8800GT with 3-Way SLi.

Oh, I know. There are plenty of more powerful cards out there, but the 9800GT has the potential to offer an amazing bang for the buck.

Yeah I did a google search on the 9800GT as well because of a thread I made about a new video card. Christine mentioned something about the 9800GT and it intrigued me and I found out the same thing you did. A rebranded 8800GT with 3-way SLi support.

that sounds cool. It seems to me that SLI and 3 way Sli works better with low to mid cards anyways.

Well that seems awesome now cause there giving the chance for people that has low budgets enabling them to have a card that is 3-way SLI with there 780a/i 790i board.

price looks stupid right now.....next higher card at 20$ so confusing.....makes u buy more....

but the cool part is you can use three...(good for sales of Nvidia) and there is the "COOL" factor of seeing 3 cards..Slot bandwidth issues are less because of the GT card..`
Worse case scenario is it dosent work, so I sell 1 of the cards...

the big thing is the cost and if Nvidia even releases them.
