Best bang for my buck ?

Gday everyone,

I am trying to put together a gaming rig, just not sure on what type of graphic card to smack into it i am after the best bang for my buck =)......
i have listed some graphics card and i am purchasing from www.mwave.com.au (yes AUS)

any advice would help

Definitely the 4850, but don't count out the 3870x2 or 9800GTX just yet.

yes. all the 4850's mwave has are the same just different oem stickers and slight bundle differences.

you will lose performance lol. 4850 is slightly better and about $126 cheaper only problem it requires more power.

now that i have a change of motherboards i ain't sure which will serve a better purpose ... so many to choose from ..
one question sure i got with a X48 or P45 if i want to run crossfire ?

Rampage = 2x PCI-E 16x link
P5Q = 2x PCI-E 8x link

16x is about 3% difference in performance over 8x however with the new 48xx series by ATI they have shown to bottleneck at high resolutions in 8x mode not sure about 16x

and the P5Q can only run DDR3.

However, the P5Q-E and Pro both handle DDR2. It may also be a good time to look at some new suspects. For instance, Biostar is breaking OC records with their new motherboards.

Now i will end up eventually going crossfire so definitely a X48/38 chipset, tho i have come across two and not sure which will be good in the long term run.

Asus RAMPAGE FORMULA $364 vs Asus P5E Deluxe Motherboard $252 which would you prefer ?

and also with the PowerColor HD4850, 512MB DDR3 $250 vs Sapphire HD4870, 512MB DDR5 $319 should i reconsider the 4870 instead?

Rampage formula is pretty popular around here, depends on how much money you wanna spend really. Same w/ the card, 4850 has more bang for your buck, but the 4870 is definitely better, so it just depends on how much your willing to spend.

Just check the PCI express slot spacing before you buy a mobo, and make sure it matches with the types of graphics cards you want to buy. The dual slot coolers make it hard to go for multiple GPUs sometimes, especially if you have other cards, like sound or video capture that need access to other slots.

Wanna buy a 9600GT

Sorry for just pushing a mail in the group but I need help. I sold my ASUS Nvidia 7600GS SLi, 512 meg 128 bit a few days ago. I wanted to buy the 8500GT but then saw all kinds of bad reviews and that it is not worth the investment. Now I'm looking at the Chaintech 9600GT as it is the best option and one I can afford. I always loved my 7600GS but when you play Crysis and Assassins Creed, it's hard not to look for another 'young lady' (graphics card) to keep you happy as your old one is not giving you the performance you need.

I ran both games on low settings and it plays fine but everybody is talking about DX10 AND I WANT IT!!

My specs are: AMD socket 939 single core 3800+, 2x1gig DDR400 ram, 80 gig Sata 1 HDD, Isonic 400W power supply and the Biostar NF4ST-A9 motherboard.

I've also heard from the pc store where I wanted to buy the 9600GT card that I must also get another motherboard as mine won't work on the PCI-ex version 2.0 and also at least a 450W power supply.

I could not believe it when I heard it and want a 2nd opinion. To buy another motherboard and PSU will totally kill my budget.

As long as you have a PCI-Express 16x motherboard you can istall the 9600GT. PCI-E is backwards compatible anyway. Personally I think you PC will be fine with your PSU. If it keeps restarting then invest in another but as long as you don't overclock- it will most liekly be stable. I run my reasonably overclocked system on a 500W and it draws a hell of a lot more power than yours would- and our PSU's ain't that different.

I was thinking for rather then sell my whole box for cheap and then buy a brand new dula core.

Won't I get less performance from the graphics card and CPU. I aslo saw that your 12V line must be min 26Amps and mine is only 20Amps. I am so afraid to buy the card and then need to upgrade once again and spend more!!!

Since 4 yrs ago I never thought that buying a pc just to play games will cost so much.
