Okay so my friend wanted a new comp so he could play TF2 and NWN2, so I helped him design it. Well after I pick out all the parts he needs, he buys it on newegg.com and has it shipped to my house I put great care into building it for him and installing some Extra suprise's for him, and then all I had to do is ship the comp back to him.

Well I packed the comp VERY well in a box and put packing peanuts and styrofoam blocks to keep it very secure. I've shipped stuff before as I build custom computers for people on the side. I use UPS most of the time unless a customer wants somthing else, and my friend told me that UPS up there had screwed him before, and he told me to just use USPS:slap:

Well the computer I built him was this:

Case: Rosewill R218-P-BK Black 0.5mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147073
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ Brisbane 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103235
Mobo: BIOSTAR A740G M2+ AM2+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138112
Ram: x2 mushkin 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146117
Video Card: HIS Hightech Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161218
PSU: APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148027
HD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075
Disk Drive: LITE-ON Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106261

All of that for 450$ which was his budget.

now for the Pics of the computer after the United States Postal Service got done with it . Luckly I had 500$ insurance on the computer:nutkick:.

You cant see it in these pics but the motherboard is actually bent.

Damn man! That's a shame, whenever I build for friends they are usually so pumped they'll drive to me to pick it up. That sucks though, but good thing you got the insurance. Are things salvageable? I'm sure some things will still work.

The reason I had to ship it to him is because he is in Michigan and I'm in Nevada 2000miles =/

The post office takes the package and all inside of it when you claim for the insurance I think. =/

When I first read this I thought you meant UPS as in Uninteruptable Power Supply, but now I see it's incompetent postal workers that are the problem. Looks like they did a number on it (a number 2 by the looks of things). Has it been tested and does it still work? They should be liable for the whole $420 for their stupidity IMO.

Hope it still all works though, and if not, it's a good thing you insured it for $500.

I built custom boxes back in the day as well. Had one bad delivery with UPS - looked pretty much like the pics above (and it was a thicker steel case).

Dang man, sorry to see such carnage. :( I have sent 2 comps to my Mom from California to Washington with FedEx and they both arrived perfect. I shipped them in the box the case(s) shipped in. Taped them up real good and off they went. Both PC's were running onboard sound/video and had noexpansion cards. I would ship comps. with the cards out. USPS is way more expensive then FedEx. I wouldn't use USPS for any thing that big/heavy.

Thank goodness you insured the package. :toast:

As someone who has a lot of experience shipping various electronics for customers I will have to say that if you care about it there is no other choice than sending it FedEx.

One of my friends used to work as a loader/unloader for UPS and he used to tell me some funny stories about the kind of games they used to play with packages while they worked. Whatever you do NEVER mark a package with "Handle With Care" or "Fragile"!

point of story, be wary of all Parcel Services, if possible put fragile on it or make sure the parcel service puts Fragile all over it.

I used to work at a UPS hub in Indianapolis, one of the largest in the nation, and they really do not give a crap about how the packages are loaded, just that you load them at a certain pace. The sorter is just shooting them down at ya at like 50-100 packages a min., no joke. They stack packages like 15-20 boxes high not paying attention to the weight just that they fit in the truck.

One time a sorter was right above me throwin down packages and one hit me, so I wing it back up and nail him in the head. Taught him to throw them down the chute and not at me lol.

2 of my friends work for FedEx and report quite the opposite. They say its possibly the worst package care they have ever seen. Also, never ship a PC with the cards and stuff in it, thats asking for trouble. I build custom PCs as well and ALWAYS ship the cards outside of the case. Anything that can move inside the case spells trouble.

The reason I left the video card in is because my friend has never installed a video card before.

well you could tell him directions on how to do it with precautions etc. I mean directions that are included with a video card are very fool proof, as long as you read everything and use common sense.

The main reason the system is destroyed is because theres a huge dent on the other side Behind the motherboard thats actually pushing the mobo out and is severely bending the Mobo.
