Why no-one makes coolers which blow out heat of the case for VGA

I think there is not enough room in, a single slot, to blow a GOOD awmount of air out the back of the case. Having it like that restricts too much air flow. Unless they were to make a triple-slot bracket for the back of the case... but nobody would buy that.

the problem relates to fan design. it makes it more complex. fans that blow out the back of the case require a fan that blows 'sideways' as opposed to blowing 'down' - its harder to do, and therefore more expensive.
Fans that blow 'down' encounter more heatsink area directly, hence they cool better.

you also get a lot more idiots who fail to remove the slot covers... trust me, i've seen a few at lans recently. one had melting plastic and he still refused to beleive me.

fans that "blow down" ie. axial fans are not better for cooling than radial fans. Firstly, they have a massive dead zone underneath them where the motor is. There is still a dead zone on a radial fan, but much smaller. Axial fans also have a much lower head pressure then radials.

Well, I would assume competition with the OEM Dual slot varieties that iirc have been designed by some of these aftermarket companies maybe could've led to legal issues? I've noticed this also, I've still got my AC Silencer 5 rv2 on my old X850XT PE AGP lol! Great cooler for how small it truly is! I wish more companies would use that fan design, it moved a lot of air with quieter results, sure it can't peak as hi as modern dual slot w/rear vent, but it never sounded like two hairdryer's modified for 10,000 volt systems either! :D

I also think the top-down style of the AC S1's, coolers like on my Palit 9600GT Sonic, allow more cooling surface area for heatpipes, more fins to be directly cooled initially, sure it may recycle air, but as said earlier, that's why leaving a couple expansion slot covers open helps greatly. And more modern desings be the AC X2 cooler that was on my 1950Pro, sure it worked, but all that heat right at the MB/Slot area? I hated it!

Really I think the OE Dual Slot rear exhuast coolers are pretty effective, but due to limitations like said in fan design and size/clearance constraints is why we're seeing coolers that recycle air in the case yet are somehow more effective, but I'm sure someone will release a new one that's maybe 2 slots by itself, that'll help get more efficiency by allowing larger fins, pipes, air vents and fans...it will be a bash fest for sure, but I bet it will be one helluva cooler too!

i dont think they are more effective than stock coolers .. i think the stock coolers were made less effective copper painted aluminium, low fan speeds, the amount of ppl on newegg saying some coolers are worth nothing just becuase of low fan speeds from factory.

Well and that's it the overall build "cost-cutting" quality, fans that are extremely loud at high speeds, possibly due to a cost effective design? Not saying the coolers are junk, like I said earlier some were designed by aftermarket cooler companies, but for mass production they will have to cut costs where the aftermarket guys could take that same cooler with their magic and make it way more effective...I just see legal issues in them doing so...which is a shame.

But now we have the S1/S2/HR-03 designs that are even on some graphic's cards as an OE installed unit, that are very effective...my AC S1 on a the mad heat creating x1950xtx was more effective than the stock cooler at a tornado producing 100%...that was with the $8 turbo module on it too...the only air exhausted from the system from the S1 is near the pci expansion slots covers I removed (and it recommends to do so in the instructions which is nice to see them recommend!). But if that XTX cooler was a little thicker, had more pipes, a better HSF design and a little better fan, it could go from already effective to a great cooler...and that's old tech stuff now-a-days. I agree with ya dude, but I don't see them making dual slot any better till it takes up another slot imo...triple slot cooling here we come! lol!

but the disadvantage of some of these "new age" coolers is that some take up 3 spaces :|.

I just cant wait for someone to produce a good proper copper rear exit cooler

Air cooling presents more of a challenge for getting the most you can while keeping temps and stability within safe levels...I'm not a big fan of watercooling personally, but have seen how well it truly does work...I just prefer larger heatsinks with big fans lol! Heatpipes, I want to see how well that new CPU heatsink with the liquid metal in the heatpipes works...if it works well, it could easily be converted for GPU duty also!

the point i was making earlier didnt get across.

axial fans that 'blow down' get cool, fresh air to more heatsink surface area at once. yes there may be a deadspot in the center, but you get the whole heatsink (fins and base) cooled over 90% of the fan area.

radial fans that blow 'sideways' are only get one SIDE of a heatsink - its a LOT less surface area, by a huge amount. Yes the air does blow sideways over the rest of the heatsink, but its heated air by the time it reaches there.

axial fans will cool quicker due to getting colder air to a great surface area, faster - therefore they are chosen more often, as its easier to design an affective cooling solution.

Coolers that exit the air don't provide enough of a benefit to worry about. The completely internal designs are cheaper and easier to build, and cool your card just as well as a cooler that exits the air, with the added benefit of saving us a few bucks.

And don't bring the "it heats up the rest of my system" excuse. Properly manage your airflow, and you're lucky to see a 1 or 2C difference. If a couple of extra degrees is enough to cause problems in your system, you didn't have it set up properly to begin with.

hmm, maybe i didnt get my point across about radial fans. They dont have to be used to blow sideways...in this instance they are because that is the best thing for them int he space provided. Axial fans dont have as much head, they cannot push air as deep into the heatsink as a radial fan can and therefore do not cool as well. They do however take up less space.

Just for an illustration, an old coolermaster heatsink uses a radial fan



These fans should definitely be used in conjunction with watercooling on rads that have a high fin density (even though they arent), where axials just arent up to the job.

hmm, maybe i didnt get my point across about radial fans. They dont have to be used to blow sideways...in this instance they are because that is the best thing for them int he space provided. Axial fans dont have as much head, they cannot push air as deep into the heatsink as a radial fan can and therefore do not cool as well. They do however take up less space.

Just for an illustration, an old coolermaster heatsink uses a radial fan



These fans should definitely be used in conjunction with watercooling on rads that have a high fin density (even though they arent), where axials just arent up to the job.

thats a normal example of one yes, but when used on GPU's they have to be a lot thinner, and on the side (not the 'top') of a heatsink. otherwise you'd have a 4 slot video card.
