NForce 4 Not Booting, Please Help.

My A8N-SLI will not boot up, it won't even beep, all the fans turn on but thats it, i have taken all of the hardware and tried starting it to see if it would beep, but it will not, any ideas?

no boots are an indication a critical component has failed, or is setup incorrectly.

Remove all items that are un-neccesary and run a 'simple' boot.

You will need

Motherboard
CPU
one stick of ram
Video card

Unplug any unneccesary items such as case fans, LED lights, hard drives etc.

CLear the CMOS (see mobo manual for details) by removing the motherboard battery. Wait a few minutes, put the battery back in, connect the PSU power and see if that boots.

Basically what you're trying to do is narrow it down to see what item is causing the no boot scenario - the less parts the better, and its going to help a lot if you have any spares (alternate ram, video cards, etc)

I have taken everything out except the CPU, and i am still not getting anything, it was just working a half hour ago, this sucks. What do you think?

well i listed the minimum parts above, its not going to work without ram or a video card, lol.

Yeah, i know i have tried to boot with the minimum, still no beep, but i usally get a beep when i have nothing but a CPU in it, but I am getting no beep..... with anything.

well that leaves mobo, CPU or PSU as the main ones to test.

I'd start with the PSU - test it with a multimeter and see how the rails are doing (3.3v, 5v and 12v - if it has more than one 12V rail, try and test them all)

what we're trying to do is notice if any parts are behaving abnormally, so keep your eye out for anything unusual. logic is a good idea, but be careful with making assumptions

(no video output will occur without a CPU and ram, for example - so you cant just assume no picture means a dead video card)

The CPU is fine and so is the PSU, i just got an RMA for the board so i am pretty happy...but i got another question, where should i keep my CPU at?, i don't have a box for it.

Are you sure there is a speaker connected to the motherboard? Just keep the cpu safely in an anti-static bag. If you don't have one, any shipping courier should have one for sale like UPS for example.

yup put it in an anti static bag, and then place it somwhere it has no chance of getting the pins bent.

When i get the new A8N will i have to reinstall my os? because It is going to be the exact same model mobo and all the same hardware as before.

you shouldnt need to. Generally as long as its the same IDE/sata controller there is no problems booting, although windows may nag you to re-activate if it notices the serial numbers have changed. (thats unlikely however)

I got what looks like a brand new A8N- SLi today and i got it setup and everything is working perfectly again, didn't have to reinstall my Os. Thanks for the help guys.:toast:
