E8400 Build or Phenom build?

BTW, i dont OC. and the systems have exactly the same parts besides the motherboards. The Phenom build costs $687 while the Intel build costs $637. The Phenom is a 2.2Ghz Quad Core and E8400 is faster but is Dual core. The system will be used for only gaming and Internet usage. Everyone tells me to go Intel but i dont see the problem with AMD(plus there HSF's are a lot easier to put on). I priced both systems with a 3870, Corsair 550W PSU, Corsair XMS2 RAM and the same WD HDD 160GB. The motherboard for the AMD system is a Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe and for the Intel system the motherboard is a Asus P5Q Pro.

Im biased but I say go with the dual if not compressing videos and whatnot. But the complaint of the pin system on 775 can be remedied with an aftermarket cooler and bolt on kit!

Personally I have never had a issue at all with the pushpin system, even on the Xig 1283 I managed to get them in. The xig warps the mobo in the process but I still find them very simple to use!

No doubt about it, go for the E8400 build, quad-cores haven't really progressed yet when you take a look at their potential of having 128-bit technologies, multi-threading technologies, etc. People buy them because of the basic advantages compared to a dual-core. Such things like Physics processing (more than Crysis!), HD playback, along with scalability with more than two GPU solutions without a bottleneck. If you can, spend the extra bucks for the E8500 since that CPU seems to outperform the rest of the E8000 series by a big gap on most titles. If your thinking quad-core, we won't be dealing with Life-like physics for a long time. As for the Phenom build, its crap due to low cache. You're going to get 8400 love from most here. Especially if you bust out the E8400; a huge chip.

The E7200 is so good that for a strange reason it beats the Q6600 at Crysis when it comes to high res, same thing for the E8400 except the E8500. Strange but great since we save. The E7200 is 10% less powerful that its closest frequency sibling (Q6600), either way, the CPU is not on much high demands at the moment as Crysis just got its ass kicked when Physics came into play.

Go with the E8400 since you are only intending to play games n surf.
the phenom isn't that much of a performer when it come to games(less cache n shit). actually it sucks in games and the E8400 would easily kick its ass!

I knew as soon as I Saw this thread that very few people, if any, would recommend the AMD cpu. Future proof yourself and you can go with the quad. Otherwise, the E8400 isnt bad either. Depends on what you want to do though. That mobo is sick but you could go with the MSI K9A2 Platinum and save some dollars in the process.

Intel is made for teh OC with the current gen. You won't get crazy numbers like many here unless you do so. I'd do a quad if not OC'ing...

Search around the FS thread for some sweet deals though. You might be able to price out something cheaper and better, while making someone here at TPU happy as well.
