Is it just me or is iTunes just a bloated peice of shit these days?

I remember back when iTunes used to be like 11mb, last time I downloaded it it cost me 40something megs of space, and now I'm downloading it and it's 61mb. What's going on? How much could their be to a basic media player?
The irritating thing is I just want Quicktime, but you can't download it without iTunes.

I actually really like itunes, I have the reverse frustration, you can't get it w/o quicktime, which I have no need nor want for. I think the size increase has been simply the result of more features, and a bigger hardware selection it needs to be compatible w/.

yeah its a good program imho, much better than version 6 and wmp 9, 10, or 11.

Just dont download/install quicktime unless you have a need for it.

itunes won't work w/o it to my knowledge. Whenever I've tried to run itunes w/o it prompts me that I can't run itunes w/o quick.

There's a huge difference though between an OS and a media player.

Correct me if I'm wrong but iTunes now includes software for the iPods (+iPhone?) that weren't included in earlier versions. There used to be standalone software updates for the iPods and at a point they got integrated into iTunes. There have been quite a few versions of the iPod introduced since then.

Personally I feel that iTunes is a little too slow in terms of response time and more demanding on resources so I use smaller players (Winamp on the PC and Cog on the Mac).

Look up Quicktime Alternative, its a good program to play the files you'd need Quicktime for.

Gom's the best to play most files without codecs installed.

itunes is only good for iPod... it eats too much to have it in the bckrng for gaming... Foobar is the best player out there. Just surprised its not more popular

It is good at several things, but fails at several things. I use it because it has all my music that is randomly scattered around and am too lazy to otherwise organize it.

i used to use it for listening to the radio but when i went to download it again a few months later and installed there new version it was running like 3+ services this was some time ago too. Never used it again since.

I like itunes it rips cd's to mp3's well and manages my vids well too the perfect companion for my ipod. The only prob i had was not reading cd's with Vista 64bit wich i managed to get around after finding a driver online.

You can safely and easily remove or disable those services if you don't use them. They are tiny anyway and on a modern system won't make a dent in your resources.

Never been a fan of quicktime very rarely use it most of the time its media player classic as my vid player of choice.
