Best PC Racing Sim?

Hi

I'm the latest Noob to forum. I have bits and bobs of tech knowledge but mostly i'm probably a Noob.

As my first post, I pose the question. What is the best Pc racing simulator? Discuss, using graphic, gameplay and hardware compatibily comparisons. Use of nonsensical technical jorgon will not be considered a bonus.

I would say atm, it has to be grid, havent played the full version myself, but what I have seen of the graphics, gameplay, people raving about it, it looks amazing. If I can find it for a good price, its the next one on my games to get list.

Thanks for the reply, never heard of it, but than I am new to the racing sim scene, I'll look it up.

I looking to get hold o Logitech G25 hopefully tomorrow. So I need something thats as good as the wheel

GRID is not really a racing "sim" but its a damn good racing game. I heard people have some problems trying to get racing wheels to work with the game cause the sensitivity is so high on some of the cars. If you really want to use that G25 to its full potential you should try out BMW M3 Challenge. Its a real SIM and you can get it for free from here.

I never could play racing games on a wheel. Sims or arcade racers, just couldnt beat the times I was getting on a gamepad/controller.

Gtr2,its what the aforementioned m3 simulator is based on with way more cars.

Others F1 2001\2 and GTR2 which is the newest of all 3. Recommend a wheel for all 3 for best experience.

Grand Prix Legends (1960s Formula 1) - old but has tons of addons that improve the gfx add new features ,literally 100s of tracks to DL.

GT Legends - great game and it has my all time fave car in it the Ford Capri

Grid is a good game but in no way should it be considered a sim,pure arcade fun.

The only Need for Speed game that id consider even close to a sim was the Original Road & Track Need for speed which was released in 1994.

Live for speed. Its a very good simulator and kinda difficult aswell. I just play it to spin and donuts till the tires pop

GTR2 is good aswell but the cars are very stiff and they don't react the way I want them to.

NFSU2 was good also in terms of how the cars handled. Very old i know, but the best of all the nfs games. Even better than pro street for me

TrackMania United is awesome. Very fast cars and incredible acrobatics. Get it on Steam or disc.

There's a free version on Steam called TrackMania Nations, so try it out; you can't go wrong.

dirt and grid are freakin' awesome games, but they aren't really sims...

if you're looking for pure hardcore sim, get GTR2 or GTR-evolution...

In terms of what's most recent, GTR 2 and Race 2007 are your simulators but they are nothing compared to older titles such as Grand Prix II, IndyCar II and Nascar Racing (original from Papyrus, also did the Indycar series).


Grid and Flatout are a fun experience, but you run out of things to do pretty soon and they are definatley not a simulator.

Everything else is just junk.

I see many great racing games everyone has posted but Grid and Dirt top my list, if you have played the Grid demo it don't come close to the full version game. If you will check E-bay you can get a deal on either of them. If you have a nvidia chipset in your mobo you may have to get the latest driver update package or you may have some crash issues. Some have reported a problem playing Grid due to this. The only other thing I can say is after I up graded to ATI 8.8 CCC it cause Grid to crash on me but after backing up to the 8.7 drivers it cleared that problem right up.

Ive never had problems with GRID and my Nvidia chipset.
