Does anyone know if Call of Duty 4 supports Physx? The game has a lot of physics, and if possible I'd like to use the spare 8800 GTS 640 I have sitting next to me. You guys think I would see any gains?

no it doesn't support physX , they have their own physics engine that works on the cpu .

It works in the CPU, yes, but it's not their own. It's Havok.

Hmm, interesting. It seems you are right. It was listed in Havok website before launch, but it's not now. It's still listed in the spanish wikipedia entry for Havok physics, so that corroborates what I thought. I'm pretty sure it was a Havok game at some point.

No COD4 have a proprietary physics engine like CRYSIS :rockout:

Yeah but Crysis one is much better. COD4 has many good things, physics is not exactly one of them...

But PhysX and phisics are 2 completely different things. CoD4 is not a PhysX game.

sure you can shoot through walls in cod4, but you could do that in CSS!

COD4 has barely any physics but there are plenty of things that move that give it a nice look. For instance, random debris being swept by wind across a road or something...

Those are like the only 2 games that utilize that type of phisics.

How is shooting though walls physics?
Physics involves ragdolls, explosions, and destructible environments.

They have already replied to you, but:

1. As they said shooting through walls has nothing to do with physics. You could shoot through walls in Swat 3, BTW.

2. You can shoot through some surfaces in Crysis. Shooting with something like an M4 through most kinds of walls and killing people is unrealistic anyway. The bullet loses all of it's speed and is severely deviated by most walls. Most of the times it would just stay inside the wall, once it loses it's original shape it would have a hard time penetrating even human flesh.

Now a machinegun... that's another story.

Exactly what are you talking about? Shooting through walls or destructible environments?
IT'S NOT the same, shooting through walls has nothing to do with physics IN GAMES. I mean no physics calculations are made. At least until now, maybe when more compute power is available. Anyway there's no destructible environments in COD4 so I fail to see your point.

I haven't tested it and it's been a while since last I played Crysis, but AFAIK, you CAN shoot through wood (at least trees, fences, etc. sure you can), but obviously you can't through metal and concrete. Most walls in Crysis are metal or concrete, enough said.
