Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare... your thoughts?

I just got the multi-player and love it so far. I know I'll get flak from all the BF players here but that's ok. I mean, there must be a few here that like COD?

So what do you think about this version so far? I only have an hour playing in at this point myself but I like what I see.

From what I've seen and read of the game, it's certainly an improvement on previous iterations. That being said, it's not really hard to beat Black Ops, so who knows if it's enough of an improvement for people to remove the label of "same old rehash, same old janky engine". I'm not a fan of the CoD online community, but I will for sure give the single player a go to see if it's the same old crap as before. Nothing seems to match that of the original series campaign from early 2000.

I hope they learned from their story-writing mistakes, and understand just how you write a real story (see Spec Ops: The Line). Then again, Kevin Spacey is a flawless theatre director, and a damned good emotional actor. If they took plenty of his input, I imagine the story will be a little bit more relatable and not just shocking moment after shocking moment for cheap thrills aimed at teenagers.

Well, from what I see so far the MP is good (for me) as I like a lot of fast action. I only jump on for an hours play to relax and get my kicks and leave, mostly.
Yes, it still has that cheap thrill aimed at teenage feel in MP, for sure.
To me that's like a cup of expresso... lol. A few minutes with it and I'm good to go back to working.
But I am going to grab the single player right now and take a look see. And if it is any good I will sit down and patiently try to get through it.

Game seems optimized well for GPU power, but needs a ton of RAM (not VRAM). I had to go 8 GB -> 12 GB for it to run stable.

Experienced some NVIDIA driver crashes, which I assume are fixed with the new NV driver.

Probably not worth the asking price for just SP, didn't even bother with MP because it's probably gonna suck.

COD: AW will be in future TPU benchmarks.

I had driver crashes too. Played an hour or so last night, mostly glitch free.

IMO, Modern Warfare was the best iteration for me. I'm a BF player so I find the running and gunning a bit too unimaginative.

I'll play the SP and I think it's better than the last CoD but it's still the same game rehashed.

I only have a single EVGA 670 gpu but I do run 16GB system ram and it has been as smooth as silk here for me, very stable so far.

I'm a little hesitant to purchase AW after Ghosts, which is a shame as I thoroughly enjoyed MW3 (also by Sledgehammer Games) and BLOPS2, but AW is looking very enticing. MW3 and BLOPS2 were the first CODs I played for more than a few minutes and I only play for the multiplayer (have not touched the campaigns... don't even bother installing it), but something with Kevin Spacey may be worth it. As for the online 'community', I do not participate in such a thing; I play the game competitively with friends, and that is it. If AW behaves more like a disguised arena shooter than the Betafield wannabe Ghosts, it might just end up on my 'to buy' list.

I'm thinking it's a must try at this point, even though the hype train has me skeptical whether it's another one of those ultra short, heavily scripted sp campaigns filled with linear cinematasia. And there's little things that are already taking me out of exo immersion. Like the fact that there are no obvious mechanical extensions of it beyond the wrist attachment, to enable hand strength. Please tell me those wimpy fingerless gloves are not somehow magically giving you super grip strength to tear off car doors and such?

Can anyone that's finished the sp campaign tell me roughly how many hours it is? Is it ultra linear? Any optional side missions?

I had to laugh at the "Betafield" comment. DICE should make a game called Betafield Infinite.

Yeah that's what I was expecting. I saw an Angry Joe interview with the Sledgehammer devs. When he indicated he was kinda burned out on CoD mp, he asked if the sp campaign was substantial, saying he was looking forward to the campaign with Spacey. It seemed like they didn't want to reveal how short it is. There was sort of an awkward silence, then they're all like "Well, mp is always what CoD has been about anyway", blah, blah, blah.

Yep, all the trailers look like same thing DICE has done with BF. Put a short sp in as an add-on.

I've played a few rounds, and I'm really enjoying it. The visuals are really nice. Still shots don't do it justice, because all the ones i've seen had me thinking it's going to be the same ol same ol.. But I got to say I'm impressed. I've not got to play the sp yet, but I hope to soon.

I've been playing a bit of the multiplayer, and I must say its fun and fast paced, but lacking in elements that made CoD4 and MW2 feel great to me. I think what I have mainly noticed is its even more run-and-gun than the older CoDs, but that could be because I haven't played a CoD game since MW2 (I tried Black Ops and didn't enjoy it for some reason).

Graphics wise, this game is a let down. I run it on ultra everything (no Supersampling though), and the textures are all low resolution and blurry. I may have been spoiled with many years of Battlefield games, but this is a bit of a let down considering how its meant to be a better looking game.

I said the same thing until I played it and honestly it's a big improvement over the other ones. Now I can't say it's a COD to COD2 improvement, but it does have some nice touches. I don't think it's better than the Frostbite engine graphics, but it's better than what we've been getting from a COD game. Some of the places in the MP maps I had to stop playing and just look around and I'm only playing on High. The game was using about 1.4gb to 1.6gb on my GTX680 and in a few places 1.9gb. In task manager the game was using around 2.6gb of ram. One thing I notices that seemed crazy to me was when I did a steam backup to put it on other rigs the sp was over 8gb (which is about normal), but the MP was over 40gb!..
