Intel Sheds Light on Penryn Enhancements

In that case, I shall bid TPU farewell. I do not wish to be a victim of Bernaysian [sociopath, inventor of consumerism] appeal to emotion rather than reason.

Intel Sheds Light on Penryn Enhancements

I hear the marketspeak, but I don't hear the engineerspeak. I want to know how it works, not some flashy buzzwords that took all night for a group of £500 an hour dossers to synthesise. Must I wait for Ars Technica to sift through the crap and actually say how it works every time?

    Do you OWN antivirus+antispyware?

I'm not aware of any commercial Linux antivirus programs. I'm not aware of a need for one, either. I just run rootkit hunter from another machine whilst chrooted in every once in a while.

    Mandriva Gnome 64 questions

When you booted the live CD, did you have a GUI then? Is it only when you reboot that you get that error? If so, then do X -configure. If that works, then do sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.back sudo cp ~/xorg.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf If you don't get a GUI with your live CD...

    Mandriva Gnome 64 questions

You'll have to make sure that X.org (the GUI server) knows what resolutions your monitor is capable of. You'll need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf: #sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf w "Screen" Then, find the section, before EndSection, with "Depth 24" in it (presuming you want 24 bit colour), and add...

    Alternate good OS?

GNU + Linux. Start with Ubuntu, then as you learn move onto more customisable distributions such as Slackware and Gentoo.

AMD Demonstrates First Graphics Processors to Feature Native DisplayPort 1.1

Remember, it's not digital rights management, it's consumer choice enablement. ... in the sense that prisons are prisoner freedom enablement.

Phenoms To Break The 3GHz Barrier

And I've said only relatively. The K10 is wider than the K8, as the K8 was wider than the K7, as the K7 was wider than the K6. No ****. As I said, the K10 is very wide.

Phenoms To Break The 3GHz Barrier

Relatively but not absolutely. AMD's processors get wider and wider with every new "generation". They're getting wider again with this "generation", I see no reason to believe the trend will change this time around. I don't see what the size of the transistors have to do with "raw speed" needed...

Sony in Trouble for Cell Patent Infringement

Maybe this was an aside directed not at me but those reading my comment, but I'll elaborate: Finding one piece of prior art would be far too easy to be worthy of a proverbial cookie.

    DX10 planned for XP

You haven't read TPU much since I've joined have you? I don't give a damn about games, because I don't play them. Therefore, that's a moot point in my mind, and the mind of any non-gamer. If you were adding a point to a wider audience, then you should have preceeded it with something to the...

    DX10 planned for XP

I agree that the performance is a moot point. There are much more important fundamental issues.
