R9 290 or 290x are my choices followed by a 280x or 4gb 770 for 1080p. The aftermarket coolers on the 290x and 290 are more than fine just don't go stock coolig.

You want best in terms of performance? Get a 295x2 Or a Titan Z. If you want price to performance and have a budget I would get a 770 or 280x. I had an sli 770 4gb setup and just one card alone is plenty. Only dumped my single 2gb 770 because of stuttering in titanfall on extreme and games...
